Hi all. I have a 14.4 modem and typically get 0.16 latency figures
whenever I join races. I was wondering what latencies you 28.8 owners
typically experience?
Thanks,
Bill.

But I don't think the modem's the problem. It's either the local phone
system or a bug in Hawaii.

Latency and baud rate generally have nothing to do with each other. I
could see 28.8 owners having *higher* latencies, however, as the modem
probably has to do more processing to do the magic it has to do to achieve
the high baud rate over voice-grade phone lines.

One thing to try is forcing it to a 9600 connection. I get consistently
low latency times (.03, .05, .10, .11, or .13) everytime at 9600. I'm
using a Practical 288. At 288 it gets bad latency times. I can improve
them further by turning off the data compression and error correction.
Hope this helps some... or at least gives you some things to try.

NASCAR - America's Favorite Motorsport. Congratulations Dale on #7!
I've tried, for example, AT&F1&N6&K0&B1. My modem (USR Sportster
28.8)defines these extra codes as:
&N6 Sets connect speed to 9600 baud
&K0 Data compression disabled
&B1 Fixed serial port speed
Given this, is my above syntax (i.e., appending these codes to the
AT&F1) correct?
What's error correction? Is that the "Sets Error Control (ARQ)"
option? i.e., &M0 to disable it?

ATZ AT&K0&M0&B1&N10 ATS11=45
Last nite I got a latency of 0.13 (19.2k bps)
What does &F1 do?

I tried your setup string and for once I didn't get the slow latency
error (which is a relief - I was getting *real* tired of that
message). Now I get a "Remote not available (timed out)" error when I
try to race (although it is still connected - it returns to the Hawaii
race menu and scheduler no problem).

FYI, You HAVE to have the Track Pack in order to use Hawaii.

I usually connect with 0.10 latency at 28.8
