Hawaii, latencies and 28.8s?

FYI, when I downloaded Hawaii, I put it in a subdirectory, when I tried
to play, I could get as far as the race starting then I would get a
"Remote User not Available" error and could not get into a race, I moved
Hawaii to my regular Nascar directory, reran it again and it worked
perfectly the first time, hope it helps

You do NOT have to have the Track Pack to use Hawaii. You only have to
have it if you want to race on one of the Track Pack tracks.

You are correct.  It's in the documentation that you MUST install the
HAWAII.EXE files into the directory where NASCAR is installed.

Thanks Kieth, I made the same mistake but have since moved it to the
Nascar directory. I stopped getting the "Slow latency" error, but the
strange thing is now Nascar can't communicate with the remote *at
all*. It gets a "Remote not responding (timed out)" error every time
(I have tried many connects with different modem speeds and settings).

I wish someone could tell me what this error message means. I think
Papyrus really needs to beef up the Nascar connection software so that
it can at least return a meaningful error message, as they don't seem
to know what this message means either.  The "Slow latency" errors I
was getting before I could at least understand, and maybe such errors
aren't even Papy's fault (could be the phone system for example). But
this is much more basic, it's an "I'm just not talking" communication
bug in multiplayer Nascar.

Note that I have no trouble at all connecting through eterm, going to
the race scheduler, etc., it is only the multiplayer Nascar that
doesn't work.

In case you can't tell, I'm just *dying* to play this game. I've tried
at least 2-3 times (sometimes more) a night since it's opened, I've
probably spent at least a hundred bucks on long distance already and
haven't raced for 1 second. It is starting to drive me crazy; if I
don't get connected soon I'm going to have to stop reading these
Hawaii threads, it's pissing me off too much hearing about how much
fun everyone else is having but for me it just won't work.

Ed, if that's the case, why do you have to specify the directory name when
setting up?  It seems redundant....???

And another question...don't know if anybody's asked yet: Have you considered
selling the Hawaii Server software to BBS's and the like?

I have nascar installed in \ga\nascar\.  If you don't have nascar installed
