I'm trying to decide between a SB Live and Diamond MX300 for gpl and N3.
I've read many positive things about the SB (including how stable the
gameport is for wheels), but haven't heard much about the MX300. But i've
heard the MX is supposed to support the directsound environmental audio that
may be in N3.... anyone have any input?

thanks,
mark

My MX-300 sounds GREAT, and the gameport is *rock-solid*.
I use it with my TSW2, FLCS/TQS/RCS, ACT LABS Force RS
and a Sidewinder Gamepad, all connected through a Joyswitch.

I was worried about the gameport, too, and most of the
reviewers, etc. only talk about sound.

Oh, I haven't had any problems with DOS games either. I
regularly play ICR2, and some DOS flight-sims. It configures
as a Soundblaster Pro and SB16 midi, and the gameport works
smooth as silk in DOS. Good card for $40!

I'll second that. My MX300 has been flawless since I've owned it and
seeing how you can now buy it for around $60, I can only recommend it
more.

hehe.. I got mine at CompUSA, believe it or not, about 3 weeks ago.
I replaced an AWE64 with it. The MX-300 was either $39.95 or $40.95,
something like that..

says...

I have an SB-Live. It supports DirectSound and it's own proprietary "EAX"
3d sound API.  Since I don't use a four-speaker setup, this sjhould be
fine for N3.  You can get an OEM SB-Live for about $60-$70.

The only problem I have with the Monster Sound is that it's from Diamond
- I swore off Diamond cards many years ago.
