I am considering downloading this rather large file, and was wondering if it
is worth my time.

best rallying game to date for me

I miss the narrower RC2000 roads (in rally xtreme roads are
WWWWWIIIIIIIIDDDDDEEEEE)

The physics are quite good, but cant find how to switch automatic shifting
off :)

I tried the other night...1. look:

Keyboard support only solution and no redefine of keys...u have to stick
with the cursorkeys for fwd/break/left/right.
In my opinion better than the old RC2K...could never get RC2K to work
with my keyboard...

1 stage...1 car..:(...

If u have a fast connection....get it...45MB

I will stick to RM until RT...:)

It automatically detected my wheel with split axis pedals and works fine...

Thanks,
Alex

The physics are descent, but with some arcade parameters. Car models are
ugly, stages aren't real, but nice, about 2-2 1/2 lanes, a bit narrower than
most rally sims. A lot better than I originally expected, but still not
great. I still reccomend you download it though

Thanks,
Alex

That's truly a miracle!

Graphics are pretty amazing but it screwed up my wheel settings. I need to
apply full gas and brake to move and when I let off brake, it is then
applied.

A lot of texture / 3D object corruption (cockpit view is a total mess), no
FF and either way too much control sensitivity or major control lag here.

Automatic gears only, automatic reverse including pedal "switch" (brake
becomes gas and gas becomes brake), which I hate. What's wrong with Drive -
Neutral - Reverse through paddles?

This demo does little to sell me on the game, completely unplayable.

No texture probs at all here,***pit view is as it should be, and the
game runs surprisingly smooth in 1280 res at 32bit.
I do however have the same control problems as you have - making the
game unplayable indeed. VERY frustrating, there is no way now to judge
the demo..baaaad move.

I have a LWFF + CH pedals and OFCOURSE it didn't reckognize my CH
pedals. Even worse, I had to delete my pedals from the windows->game
controllers menu before it reckognized my wheel.

Tell me about it -especially the automatic reverse at the most
unsuitable moments- anooooying!!

Well.. If the steering problems are solved (they can't sell the final
version with these steering problems.. allthough I said the same thing
about F1RC, boy was I wrong) it could be a very nice game...
I -love- the track.. the terrain is incredibly open, you can drive
off-road over grass and rocks, but to get a decent time you have to
stick to the road as much as possible - and the road itself it quite
narrow.

Shame about this demo because of the ridiculous controller problems,
but I still have hope for this one.. :)

PS gfx are very nice - especially replays looks very good, but
surprisingly enough it doesn't match the graphic quality of RC2000 -
this is by the same company right?

Well, my system:
P3 866 GF2 GTS
win98se, dx8a
SB Live 32
Logitec wheel + CH pedals

Nope. Same publisher, different developer (no longer Magnetic Fields).

Very poor IMO.

Installer said I didn't have enough space to install demo, even though I had
650 Mb. Finally got it to install with 750 Mb free, even though the demo
only actually took 65Mb !!

Game itself - average graphics, average physics, poor framerate. Couldn't
find a way of quitting the game (which I wanted to do almost immediately).

My opinion - don't bother. It's not often a game actually makes me angry,
but this one did.

So Rally Extreme doesn't have anything to do with RC2000? I believe I
read Rally X was supposed to be the follow up of RC2000 somewhere..

It's sort of the follow up to RC2000 (uses the same game engine). It's not a
sim of the BRC or any other real rally series, and has a different
developer.

That's kinda odd, changing development teams but keeping the software
engine....Could this be a spin-off company of the original programmers?
