Which Video Card to Get??

Well, since it has been pointed out to me that my Rage card won't work very
well with N3, which video card should I get?  I play primarily only sports
games, and would actually like to play with N3 with all the goodies, not
just the AI.....

Which Video Card to Get??

Two more questions I thought of after my original post.....would a new video
card improve my graphics for the current games I run in D3D from my current
card, or would I be buying a new graphics card just for one game (N3).
Finally, and this is pure speculation, but would the Rage D3D graphics
problem be something that would be fixed in an N3 patch possibly??

Once again, sorry about my being so naive when it comes to computers, but
any help would be greatly appreciated....

Dave

If you HAVE to have a new card right NOW, you're probably best off with a
Voodoo 3, either a 2000 or 3000.  You can easily overclock the 2000 to
3000+(std.) speeds and they're dirt cheap(rebate too at the moment, I
think).  For N3 and GPL, glide is the way to go, and the V3's do D3D well
also, just not "quite" at TNT2 levels.  And their 2D is great, so you'll
notice an improvement all-round.  You'll be wanting a next-generation card
before long (months?), so it's probably not a good idea to buy a top-dollar
card at the moment.

Cheers,

Steve B.

The new voodoo's (v3's) can only do fullscreen, not a window... correct?

Iv'e tried several newer cards and still use a hercules thriller 8 meg, it runs
GPL faster than 24 megs of voodoo. Of course it won't run 3dfx games.

If you are replacing your existing Rage with a new 2D/3D card [the rage is a
2D/3D card] then yes, all your D3D, etc games will see improvement.  This
also depends on the type of card.  A TNT, TNT2, G400, etc will improve all
your games that support D3D and/or OpenGL (for the most part on the OpenGL).
The Voodoo3 series you will see improvement also but in addition to D3D and
OpenGL, you'd also see improvements in any title that still uses Glide
[3dfx's proprietary 3D format].

Lots has been said on the issue, you might wish to check out dejanews and do
a search on the group about video cards.
