ICR2 with Rendition card

by Scott Moor » Tue, 03 Mar 1998 04:00:00

I know this has been addressed before, but I can't get ICR2 to run with my
Stealth II. I installed the patch, I try to run Indycar2.exe, and the system
crashes. I tried V2DOSFIX, and it gave me an error.

Any help out there?

I'll give it a go :), my setup works with the Stealth 2 though god
knows why we have to stuff around like this.
Note: the following assumes your game is installed in a directory
called c:\ICR2. (change drive letters and names to suit).

1. Get the following file "Icr2_v2k.zip " from http://www.bjorn3d.com
its in downloads/patches section under the V2x00 heading.

2. Create a directory inside your ICR2 directory called "Backups"

3. Extract the above file into this new directory.

4. Copy the file "indycar2.exe" that you extracted into the new backup
directory into the ICR2 directory.

5. Rename the file "spd3d.uc" that was extracted into the backup
directory to "spd3d.uc2"

6. Copy the file "spd3d.uc " which came with ICR2 and is in your ICR2
directory to the backup directory.

7. Create a batch file called ICR2.bat in your ICR2 directory and have
it read as follow.

indycar2
del c:\icr2\spd3d.uc
copy c:\icr2\backup\spd3d.uc2 c:\icr2\spd3d.uc
indycar2
del c:\icr2\spd3d.uc
copy c:\icr2\backup\spd3d.uc c:\icr2\spd3d.uc

What happens is this
Your start ICR2 with the batch file ICR2.bat ( if under win95 make
sure you point to this file and start in MSdos mode.)
DO NOT have the check box "close on exit" ticked
The first line starts ICR2 with the new indycar2. exe you unzipped,
and uses the original spd3d.uc that came with the game. This is
necessary for your Stealth2 to be recognised.

ICR2 starts.

EXIT straight away

The batch file takes over again and the spd3d.uc file is deleted and
is then substituted by the "spd3d.uc" that came with the zip file.
(this is done to fix a mirror problem.) indycar then starts again and
your on your way.

When your done and exit for the last time the original "spd3d.uc" is
copied back in readiness to start all over again.

  Hey Piper
I too am in the same boat, but I have the CART Racing version of ICR2.
Everything that was INDY in the dir is now CART.  like CARTRend.bat  Cart.exe
CartFast.bat.
Do you know of changes I'll need to make to get that sucker to run with your
method??
[btw, I'm printing out the post to make sure I get it now and hopefully don't
lose it.. ]
fwiw I think cartrend is Indysafe, sounds like they just wanted to be more in
line with N2.

Well Dave, I also have the CART version so I'm confident we can get
you up and running  :).

You should use the indycar2.exe file that came with that file I
mentioned earlier. The new cart executables will not work, (for me at
least.)
My game is installed in a directory called d:\cart, I deleted the dos
and window versions that are installed automatically and just kept the
rendition version that was installed in the /rend directory. Just
renamed the directory to CART or ICR2 or whatever.

If you follow the rest of the points you should be fine, just remember
to modify the directory name to suit, and use the indycar2.exe that
came in that zip file.

10 bucks. And I thought the game was cheap in Sydney at $60.00
Australian ($40.00 US)  :)

  OK here we go

here is my batch file, the sim is on drive d: in the CR dir/folder and the
backup files are in D:\cr\backups.  It loads up fine the first time, but on exit,
there is an error message that says file not found d:\cr\backups\spd3d.uc.  Then
the text turns to Russian crylliac(or reversed) looking characters and sits
there.  I can restart ICR2 by typing in the indycar2 command even tho the text is
unreadable.  then the game launches but I'm not sure I'm getting the proper spd3d
file transfered.

indycar2
del d:\cr\spd3d.uc
copy d:cr\backups\spd3d.uc2 d:\cr\spd3d.uc
indycar2
del d:\cr\spd3d.uc
copy d:\cr\backups\spd3d.uc d:\cr\spd3d.uc

Dave,
Your batch file is okay. Just check you have the following files in
your d:\cr\backups directory.

spd3d.uc (dated 1996 - this is the file that came with CART)
spd3d.uc2 (dated 1997 - this is the file spd3d.uc that came in the zip
and you renamed)

The file not found message suggests you have not copied the original
spd3d.uc from d:\cr  to d:\cr\backups.

Just a reminder that the 1996 spd3d.uc file is required with
indycar2.exe to start the game. After starting immeadiately exit the
batch file will take over and restart CART for you.

If for what ever reason you did not close down the game properly
(lockups), the batch file will not copy back the original spd3d.uc.
You will have to do this manually before you can restart in the
future.

Thanks I'll double check what is where below are the two files that I have in my
D:\CR\Backups folder.

here are the two files I have in the backups dir.  Both are from 1997
but have different dates and byte counts.
Spd3d.uc  56Kb UC file 9/9/97
Spd3d.uc2  71kb UC file 8/17/97
