Stepping up to Nascar 2003 questions

by Lambon » Tue, 03 Feb 2004 00:02:13

Hi All,
Look for info to get back up to speed with the game.
I used to play sim racing games with the original Nascar thru Nascar 3 at
that time I used a Thrustmaster T2 driving wheel.
I have just bought Nascar 2003 and I need to get a new wheel. Based on the
research I have done up to this point, I think the Logitech MOMO may be the
best choice. Is this a good wheel?
I am also having some problems with the multiplayer part of Nascar 2003. Is
there any websites that would have info on multiplayer with Nascar 2003? The
manual that came with the game is not very informative on that subject.

BTW: For any old sim racers still using this newsgroup, I used to go by
racer "Lambone" and all the flamers called me Lame Bone. If any of you see
this give me a shout, I'm as lame as ever I guess.

Sorry to be so long winded,
Lambone

Hi,

I use the Logitech Racing Force Feedback (Black) Wheel and Pedals.  I love
the wheel, it is excellent.  The pedals aren't that great and I will be
replacing them some, however, for the price this was a great buy.  I have
had them for about a year and they standup well to wear.  Your choice should
depend on your pocket book.  I'd suggest you look from ECCI (Extreme
Competition Controls Inc) and BRD (BallRacing Developments) to Logitech and
Act Labs depending on your price range.  The higher quality stuff from ECCI
and BRD would be best, most likely, but higher quality means WAY higher
prices.

I am not sure about websites to help you with multiplayer, but if you ask
specific questions, we can help you here!

Cya,

Thanks for your input.
In terms of the problem with multiplayer. I registered with sierra online to
gain access to online racing, however when I click on a race that is not
password protected I get a message stating "you don't have the ranking to
run this race" or something like that. Keep in mind I have not attempted a
multiplayer race since Nascar 3. Is sierra online where everyone races these
days or is there another server perhaps that I'm not aware of?

Thanks,
Lambone

I think most of the racing is done through sierra.com.  I race two online
leagues and they are both done through that.  As far as the rankings, you
will just have to look around.  I have the same problems sometimes (I think
sierra acts funny some), but not much because I usually just race with my
leagues, where I have a password.  Your best bet is to get involved in some
leagues and race with them online and practice offline.  I don't have much
luck finding random rooms to race in, but I don't try much either.

When you select a race, click on the Details label below the
racelist. You will get a popup that gives the race requirements and
your stats side-by-side.

You start with settings of zero for everything, including the LPI
(laps per incident). You will need to select races that have ratings
of 0-10, or better yet "-" in the rating column. Pick easy tracks and
build up your ratings.
