F1GP and SB-Live soundcard??????

by Erik van Duij » Mon, 07 Jun 1999 04:00:00

Hi!

a question:

have anyone of you had any probs running GP1 (F1 racing game) with the
SB Live (value)? The engine sound in the game is sounding terrible with
a
Soundblaster LIVE soundcard? The car sounds very dim and like the mowing

of a cow (not joking!).
I run Windows 95 OSR2 and thus have also tried to run it in MS-dos-modes

(also the most extreme dos-mode in which the computer completely
reboots). But still with no improvement. The soundblaster LIVE loads a
Soundblaster 16 compatible driver for older games supprt, but obviously
this one is not very realistic, because my previous card WAS a true SB
16 and had no probs with this game whatsoever..

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Erik

Unless the you are using digital sound the SB Live will probably
not emulate an old SB FM synth properly. This is why the engine
is crap. The old ensoniq cards did this with IRC2. My AudioPCI
plays the proper engine sound in the DOS IRC2 though.

Get a new/different soundcard or get used to cow sounds :-)

F1GP and SB-Live soundcard??????

Hi,

I noticed the same.  I think the point is that GP1 does NOT
support the Sound Blaster cards as such.  Look again at the options
for GP1, they are PC speaker, AdLib & Roland Synth.

It works fine on my ISA SB16 which emulates AdLib, but I've
got all sorts of weird things happening on more modern cards.
Presumably, because although they support older Sound Blaster modes,
they have dropped the AdLib emulation.

Regards,

F1GP does support SoundBlaster cards.  The list of sound options are:-

[1] ... PC Speaker
[2] ... AdLib
[3] ... Sound Blaster
[4] ... Roland MT-32/LAPC-1

It works on my SoundBlaster 16.
