GPL driver point of view?

GPL driver point of view?

by Alison Hin » Thu, 15 Nov 2001 23:44:54

I recall reading at some point that there was a way to adjust the
driver's point of view in GPL cars, perhaps by downloading some add-on
to the car files.  But now I can't find it!

I need to adjust the _height_ of the driver's point of view - _not_ the
scope or breadth, as in the Field of View tweak.  I need to raise the
driver's eye level slightly.

The reason for this is that I've got a real-world Formula Ford driver
assisting in some track testing, and he is not used to having to look
over the tires and around mirrors to see the edges of the track.  He
doesn't have to do this in real life, and it disorients him in the sim.
Apparently either he sits higher in the real world car or his front
tires are smaller diameter than GPL's.

So, I would like to raise his eye level just a bit, so he can see over
the tops of the tires.

Can anyone point me to a tool or download that will allow me to do that?

You need GPLSA from George Smiley.

Thanks, Bart and Remco!

Will GPLSA work on the Jon Ferreaz car sets, or do I need to go back to
the "stock" Papy cars?

Alison,

I sent an email to the maximum speed address, but I got a response back from
Eric Britz saying I had the wrong address.  And yes I took off the nospam.
Any ideas?

Alison-
This is the only simple change of view I know about, and maybe not what you
want, but just in case:

In Player.ini, [Personal Information] change to DrivingView=12 from the
default. This changes the view to roll bar view that I like. Can't remember
where I found it now. I can't get the view to stick however, and F10 will
toggle back to original view, but not back to roll bar, so it needs to be
edited each time. Kind of a pain, but a great view.

So what your saying is the perspective from a Formula Ford is incorrect
and you want to detune GPL to meet his expectation.  Rather shouldn't you be
lowering the seat in the Formula Ford Tub or raise the Suspension pieces so
that he is in the tire canyon.  Really...which is preferable..hacking a sim
or welding a real-world car??  :)

LOL!  I love it, Dave!  We'll have to chop up the Formula Ford, of
course!

GPL driver point of view?

I missed most of this thread, but see discussion on views, someone
mentioned the .ini edit to veiw/drive from the roll-bar.

Greg Huttu made some raised***pit files a while back. Some people
like them (like me!), some don't. They raise the driver view-point
from stock view, to maybe 10-12" higher than normal. Mirrors are still
useable. There's a mod file for all cars, files are about 40k each.

It's been so long since I downloaded those files, but found this in
the readme for the Ferrari:

> Title                : High***pit view for GPLEA Ferrari v1.02
>Filenames     : brabham.3do, readme.txt
>Author        : Greger Huttu

>Homepage      : http://www.racesimcentral.net/
