driving distance to Sears Point International Raceway:
The weekend of Oct 8-10 (next weekend) there is a NASA pro road racing event at
Sears Point Raceway. The ProFormance GTA cars (similar to a Winston Cup car)
will also be racing along with the ACRL sports 2000 pro races. This is 3-days
of racing along with the NASA new driver racing schools included (track time)
each day.
For more information about the event....go to the NASA (National Auto Sports
Assoc) website at:
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
Pabst Racing will have two of their "racing simulators" in the paddock area near
the Sears Point Media Center for the entire weekend. We are conducting "tests"
along with the NASA Racing School officials to see how "track time" on the
simulator can assist NASA instructors in producing "safer" new competition race
drivers. We are also conducting tests and will be working over the weekend (and
exclusively on Thursday preceding the NASA event) with the Jim Russell Racing
School.....for similar reasons.
The "time schedule" of seat time in the simulators will be fairly strict and
will make for full-days. Included in this schedule will be "demo"
races......using N3 (at Sears and other tracks) and GPL (at Sears) racing sims.
I will drive most of these "demo" races...but I would really like the area sim
racing drivers to make it out to Sears over this weekend for multiple reasons.
They are:
a. To get a chance to meet many of you who I only know (well) by
name.....guys like "SweetAl" and "Sandman" and "Mac".......and several others!
b. I could use some "help" in driving the demo races....which will probably
be on the order of 4 or 5 (approx 1/2 hour races) each day. You could have up
to a 100 real world racers watching you....so I need sim racers who are good
drivers to help me out.
c. This would be an excellent opportunity for some of the areas top sim
drivers to meet, talk with and get to know many of the areas top real world
drivers, and visa versa! The sim racing community and the real-world racing
community has already started to interact but there is still a large number of
real-world racers who think sim racing is just an arcade game! Of course, they
don't think that after 10 minutes on the Sears track in a GPL
car......lol.......!! But it would be great for real-world drivers and sim
drivers to get a chance to interact with each other in a common but casual
environment at the Sears Point track........hopefully showing real-world drivers
that sim racing can be.....and will be....... taken seriously and that there are
"serious" simulation racers out there!
The NASA Race event is open to the public for the entire weekend....and there is
no "entrance fee" being charged. There will be a lot of NASA pro driver
sponsors at the track too, because its a Sponsor's Appreciation race weekend for
NASA also! All it will cost you is the "time"...and the gas to come out to
Sears Point Raceway!
If there are any of you that can actually come out for an entire day....or the
whole weekend.....I could sure use your help! We'll put you in one of our
"team" uniforms and put you to work! But it will be fun work....and you'll get
to show off your sim racing skills a little bit too! Please email me and I will
give you more information.
I can offer this......as a "promise" to anyone who can come out and help
represent sim racing by working for us during this event.......I will see to it
that you get a "ride" with one of the NASA instructors driving, in a real race
car...at full race speed ......on the Sears track! That is an absolute promise!
Again, this is for the weekend of Oct 8-10 at Sears Point Raceway, Sonoma,
California. Its "free" entry into the Sears track.....look for the Pabst Racing
"Race Car Simulator" signs and our "pits" over near the Sears Point Media Tower
(that's the big gray building to the left of the pits as you exit pit road in
N3...by the way).
Even if you can only come out for a few hours......send me an email anyway just
so I can look for and expect to meet you!
My "thanks" to all of you non-California residents who frequent this newsgroup
for putting up with having to read this when it doesn't apply to you......
Regards,
Tom Pabst
