Installed GPL after full format of HDD.
Ran D3D patch as well as updates to 1.2.
Now the furtherest I can go is about 100 feet
of driving then it crashes back to desk top.

System: Celeron 700
Win 98SE, Direct X 8.1,
SB PCI128 sound,
Nvidia TNT2 M64 video card, Det 6.5 drivers

All help appreciated.

Cheers

In my experience, if it runs for a while, then freezes or crashes, it's
usually a sound driver problem (although it might be an interaction with the
vid driver; the 6.5 Dets are pretty old - you might try 7.52s, if not
something newer).  You can usually test this by disabling the sound
altogether.  Did you move any cards into new slots?  If so, try moving them
back.

Funny, I have Win95 with Det 6.50 and no problem. I guess it's the sound driver.
PIII 700
Win95ROSR2.1, DirectX 8.0a
SB AWE 64
Nvidia GeForce2MX 32MB, Det 6.50

And everything runs fine (except, of course, games which require Win98/SE and/or
DirectX 8.1, which can't even be installed)

Forgot: try running in s/w mode - that should tell you if the trouble is w.
yer vid drvrs.  (And, to be thoro: run in s/w mode w. sound disabled, too,
to see if there isn't a bad interaction between the 2.)

Nope, still keeps crashing on me.
ran with just software drivers and no sound, still
goes back to desktop. Have had it running sweet as before,
with exactly the same setup as I have now.

Hmmmn.  Maybe try uninstalling & reinstalling?  Then try it before applying
each patch, and after.  Running outta ideas here....
