GPL against AI how to set closer racing?

by gcorriga » Tue, 29 Jul 2003 13:58:11

Unfortuantely my dial up connection doesnt really make it viable to
race online, so for me I mostly race against the AI.

I thought I vagualy remember some tweak that forced a closer racing
spread of times somewhere buried in the ini files??

Could someone please offer me some advice.

I am racing on the madcowie track SANDOWN. In a field of 17 its very
predictable that the first 7 cars will bolt off leaving me dicing with
the balance of the filed. I doiny 1.08's but the fast AI's are doing
at east 2 seconds a lap quicker.

Ive come to the conclusion that these are my best lap times, but sadly
not good enough to compete for the lead.

Can the field "spread" be evened out to make for closer racing?

Please let me know

thanks

Glenn

There is a tweak around....has been for a couple of years, I think.
It's "AITweak", or something like that.
Hang about...I'll have a look in my GPL stuff........(disappears stage
right.........0

Yep...the copy I have is called "aitw103.exe" and goes back to 1998, would
you believe?!!
It might still be available....probably in an updated format.
Try http://www.theuspits.com    they may have it in their GPL utilities.

Bruce.

Yep...it's still there and it needs vbrun300.dll in order to work.
That file is also available in the same location as AITweak.

Thanks so much Bruce.

Your an Aussie by memory, how are your times around Sandown? And does
anyone race it online?

I used to race there in formula vee in the early 80's so it bring back
some great memories to me.

Thanbks once again

cheers

Glad to help, Glenn.
Yep...I'm an Aussie...down here in freezing Canberra. :) (Minus 6 this
morning!)

Although I have Sandown in my collection, I have rarely used it, Glenn, so
any times would be way off the proper pace.
And I have not raced seriously online with GPL since I bought it.
My preference is for offline racing, against the AI, and for my own
entertainment.
Apart from being able to adjust the AI to my level of expertise, I also
don't have to put up with any arguments! :)

So you raced Formula Vee in the '80's, eh?
Was Frank Kleinig still racing then, can you recall?
He used to race Vees in the mid to late 1970's....had a workshop at Seven
Hills, I think it was, with a road dyno. I used to get my MG Midget serviced
there.

Brings back memories, now. :)

Regards,
Bruce.

G'day Bruce,

You are one of those names that have consistently been around this
group for years. I think you may have assisted with a request I had
several years ago, and that how I remembered your statas. to be honest
I read many threads, but always take not when I see your name, and it
lends a lot of weight (not to mention humour) to the arguements

Yes I indeed race against Frank, and he was one of those slawarts of
the sport.

Vee racing was a fantastic experience, I raced from 1980 - 83 and
mainly in Melbourne circuits but also did some NSW, SA Tas and had a
fair degree of success for my age (21) back then.

My highlights was to win a race at the Australian GP meeting (at
Calder then) and to take the lap record at Baskerville in Tas......as
you say Bruce MEMORIES!!

Cheers and thanks again

Glenn

Aaaah! Gee, that's great to learn about Frank, Glenn! :)
It's a small world after all, isn't it?
I haven't seen him for donkey's years....we moved up to the Blue Mts. from
Concord in 1976 and I sold the Midget not long after we were married. Then
the Big Gap when children came along and it wasn't 'til 1995 that we could
get back into sports cars.

My belated congratulations on the win at the GP meeting and also the lap
record! :)

Nice to touch base again, Glenn.
All the best.

Bruce.
