GPL Help!! MSFF Wheel Not centering

by Randy Wilso » Wed, 01 Sep 1999 04:00:00

OK this is wierd, when I have FF switched on in the core.ini - the centering
goes away as soon as I enter a track. The forces are still present &
centering returns after I leave the track. If I switch FF off in core
centering works fine (but no FF effects)

Same thing happens in Midtown Madness demo but NOT in F1RS - so I'm thinking
Direct X problem...?

Everything used to work fine, even did an HD reformat and re-install of GPL
and SW software.

System Config
Cel400 (No O/C)
Abit BH6
SB Live* (see below)
MS FF Wheel
DX 6

* Was about to send message when I thought of 1 more thing to try. Yanked
out the SB Live & put in my old AWE64, guess what everything works again,
but I'd still like to be able to use my PCI SB Live

Any ideas?

Thanks

Randy

I believe GPL disables the centering when FF is enabled.

It is MEANT to be like that. Too bad you went through all that
trouble. GPL and Midtown Madness (try to) turn off centering, because
the game will do 'centering' automatically because of the force
emulation.
So driving at speed makes the wheels turn round fast and this gives
centering forces (like the way you stay on your bike when cycling and
the way you fall over when you stop ;-) )

So no problems, it works as it should!

Now why doesn't GPL turn off the centering of _my_ MSFF wheel when I forget to
do it myself before starting the game? :(

It's annoying having to quit out of the game to fix this.

Thanks for the help guys. I was away from GPL (& all my games - damn job!)
for a few weeks & forgot about that (or never noticed in the 1st place). The
AWE64 does leave centering on in the game, though.

I _was_ going to do an HD reformat anyways to clean up all the junk from the
past couple of years.

Was able confirm that the SBLive is good for about 4 or 5 FPS over AWE64 in
FF enabled GPL. Even O/Cing Cel400 to 450 doesn't have as big an effect
(maybe 2 or 3 FPS).

Thx again

Randy

Sometimes on some machines it seems to fail. Well, the DirectX call to
turn it off fails. Probably GPL is not to blame.
