I've added a clutch to my wheel (A small lever with a potentimeter). It
needs a lot of getting used to, but it's nice. The clutch is only used to
engage 1st gear, so there's no way to mis-time gear changes.
Basically what it does is: if you don't apply the clutch on the start you
can't get your engine to rev up but no stall. When you press the clutch
you can rev it just like when depressing the shift button. The added value
is the ability to slip the clutch to be able to start fast without tire
spin.
I don't know if there's a real gain, but It adds a little bit to the
realism.
Adding a pot to my wheel was easy, I don't know if I would have gone to
the effort of adding a third pedal just for a little more realism.

One question. How different is this from using the shifter on my T2? If I
hold my shifter up I can rev the engine just like a clutch...

Stop on by, what can it hurt?
The only difference is the possibility to slip the clutch. With the
button you only have a ON/OFF action, but with a clutch you can slowly
slip the clutch at the limit of rear wheel grip.

I've tried it when we were testing the GP500 for Sim Racing News. The
clutch pedal itself is fine, but GP2 hardly uses it at all. You can't
stall on the grid, you can't stall in the pits, you don't need it when
you spin, etc etc. The only time you do use it is leaving the grid, and
even then I can start just as quick by holding the gearshift in (pseudo-
clutch) and releasing at the lights.
If it was implemented correctly it might be fun, especially for NASCAR
or something if the GP500 people develop a "gate" gearshift as they are
considering, but for GP2? Nah, not worthwhile.
Cheers!
John
