Ok, here we go. Dave has every right to charge whatever he deems
appropriate compensation for his work, and the same holds true for any
person writing software for public consumption.  Many of us (The Pits,
IWCCCARS, Alex's Sim Shop, Pit Road, etc.) have chosen not to go this route
and provide our services free of charge, but that doesn't make his position
any less valid.  Thus as the consumer, you must decide if you think it's
worth it.  If it is, buy it.  Otherwise don't.  If you feel you absolutely
need a free version, sit down and make one yourself.  It's really just that
simple people.

Very well put Eric.  There are too many people that wnat something for
nothing, and you usually are not going to get it.

Eric:

R:

I think you guys should rethink your position.

Charge $1.00 or $2.00 per car ect. and $5 for any useful utility.

You guys deserve it.

Hey on top of it if people started charging a modest price for their utilities
it make make a few of us get into the utility creating game as well. If I
could get a little extra income from a good piece of code (you know to pay for
beer) then I might be inclined to do something special.

The guy who cashes in the best is the guy with the secured server selling the
products for others on his web page.

Yes, and if we did that, how much would it cost to go sim racing?
$50 for the sim, $50 for a good field of cars, $50 for some decent
utilities...are you going to spend $150 for that?  I doubt it.  Are
you going to take the countless hours it would take to create a
full field of cars, track converters, replay analysers, setup editors,
and such?  Or would you just go buy the sim and race it?

The Internet was built as a free transportation medium...it's a shame
many people feel that it must make you money as well.  It's nice
when it does, but if everyone were to feel as you do, we couldn't get
on the internet without several exorbant fees, and it definitely wouldn't
be as fun as it is.

Having said that, I totally support Dave's decision to charge for his
utility.  He took the long hours to figure out how to convert ICR2 to
N2, and believe me, there are alot more changes than there were
between ICR2 and N2.

Cheers!
