Final word on the ICR2 -> N2 Track Converter I *hope*....

Hello rec.autos.simulators follwers,

I have decided to throw in an additional 2 into the ring.  Well,  now to my
understanding that David Noonan is NOT doing anything "illegal" or in that sort.
Dave DOES have a right to sell the converter,  because he IS NOT using copyrighted code.

Now,  that's off of my chest,  I can proceed...
To tell you all the truth,  I don't really care about any other ICR2 track for N2,
except Gerhard Lingenberg's Indianapolis.  I just want that track.  And I don't really
care about the Road Courses too much.

I'm still puzzled by the price of the converter,  $32.95???  That's more than the
NASCAR 2 game here in the USA (Best Buy stores).  What happened to the good ol' days
when utilities were free?  Could this spark a "new revolution?"  The next thing you know,
a 1997 Winston Cup Car Set could cost ya $12.95...  A real example of this "new revolution" is this Web Page:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

I invite you to look at it..  This guy charges money for N1 Hot Setups,  Geez Louise.
It bothers me that people may start charging for info...

Boycotting will not do any good,  Mr. Noolan has a right to sell his product.

With the N2 Track Pack looming on the horizon,  what can we expect from it?

Whooa! $8.00 bucks for one setup(and it's N1 to!) He must be out of his
mind!!As far as David Noonan is concerned he has all right in the world to
charge for his converter allthough $30.00 is a little to much.If he brouhgt
the price down to $10.00-$15.00 I would probably puchuse it.Little to steep
for me though.

Hmm I don't know if you'de get away with selling a winston cup car set
because the companies on the cars would be a little angry with someone
making profit of of their logos without paying royalties. Also add the
drivers likeness and image to that list. Its getting kind of bad with
stuff like that. Like the elementary school in south Florida that had a
Mickey Mouse painted on one of their walls. Disney was going to sue them
if they didn't take it down. In the words of Ross Perot that's just sad.

Actually, yes it would be legal to sell a carset based on "real" cars.
If it is sold as "art".  If it is an artistic rendition of the real
thing it's art and not a copyright/trademark infringement.  Did Andy
Warhol need permission to do his Campbell Soup cans?  I don't think so.
Was he able to sell them.  You bet!

Now the the same goes for Driver skills.  The name is not being sold,
but the data generated for that name.  Again, I highly doubt it would be
illegal.

Now the pictures of the drivers that are in IWCCCARS files could be a
copyright violation, unless IWCCCARS has permission from the copyright
holders to use those pictures.

Now licensing is a completely different issue....

I agree about the charging for info. IMHO it's against what we are trying
to accomplish as Sim Racers.  As for selling his setups, I've never heard
of him. Anybody who boasts about high Talladega speeds sure is barking up
the wrong tree. Show me a 115 at N. Wilkes, or a 134 at Phoenix and I'll be
much more impressed.  There is no magical setup for each track.  I know
guys who can run 93's and 94's at Sears(N1) with the ACE setup because they
practiced hard.  If Darrel, Lentz, or Shawn Wise start selling their setups
it might be worth it. Besides who would pay for N1 setups now?  As for any
track pack for N2, I would like to see Nashville, South Boston, or the Indy

Let us run some of the Busch series tracks too!
