Nice enough?  Give me a break, you all make me so embarrased to be a
part of you, if you cannot get something legitimetly then leave.  You
should all be ashamed!

I totally agree.  Whether one supports Dave's charging for a utility is
an issue worthy of discussion.  However, advocating "piracy" and
"robbery" is not worthy of anything but shame!

This isn't mathematics folks (where 2 negatives make a positive).

While there may be some gray areas concerining the "legality" of such a
program and charging for it, I will leave this up to the lawyers.  Since
they are capable of seeing more shades of grey than any other color in
the spectrum.

Vote with your pocketbook.  If you want the utility, pay for it.  If you
don't want it, wait for someone to release a free version or do without.
But, please don't debase the sim racing community by resorting to
thievery.  I don't want crooks and thieves in my real neighborhood and
they aren't appreciated in my virtual neighborhood.

Yeah, gawdamn thiefs! Someone should post a full converter with a
*** virus in it. That's give the thiefs who steal it what they
deserve.

I would caution those from downloading the software...Hmmm, what's
the latest killer virus these days...?

It's not unique to racing sims. Lots of people want something for nothing, go
visit alt.binaries.cracks sometime. I'm not trying to justify the stealing of
software, nor do I want to start a debate on piracy. Saying that Sim racers are
more likely to pirate stuff is wrong to me.

You really think that would do any good?  Mail bombs, hate mail, and
viruses won't change a personality, it will probably just fuel the fire.

It gets better....

Somebody posted the free version to alt.binaries.cracks and asked for
it to be cracked. I've still got the original post along with the user
and e-mail address. Anybody vindictive to light a mail bomb?

Cheers

Right on Shane! I agree 100%. Why is it that more and more on the Internet
(and lately ESPECIALLY this newsgoup) that it is becoming the "Home
Shoplifting Network"?
If something is in fact provided "free", well and good, go ahead and
download and use it. If it is commercial software or there is any charge
for it, then "boycott" the pirates if you must boycott anyone. Don't be
thinking you are on the m***high ground just because YOU think everything
should be free. GET REAL, or better yet, get a life.

To Dave Noonan:
My hat is off to you for putting in the effort. Hang in there! Oh, yes
you can bet there will be plenty of pirated copies, but don't let it get
you down.
While I have not downloaded your "free" version to check it out, as far
as I'm concerned, that's plenty to offer for nothing. It should give a good
idea of whether the program will do what they want. If it does, then buy
it. If it does not, then don't buy it. But please quit your whining!
As a few others have already said, why don't you whiners learn how to
program, give up your family life for months, and make your own converters!
THEN SEE IF YOU wouldn't want "something" for your effort. Not to "strike
it rich", but just to at least pay for the programming software, the
printer ink (printing out source code), and tons of other little items.

To all of you that feel it should be free:
1. To those who have provided utilities for free:
Again, I applaud all of you for your hard unpaid efforts! While that is
admirable, don't hold it against others to try to get some payment in
return. Not all of us want to be Mahatma Ghandi, or Mother Teresa.
2. To those who say:"well these guys (see #1 above) gave their work away,
so should EVERYONE who frequents this newsgroup". That is the biggest bunch
of hog-wash I have ever heard. (Apologies to the real pigs out there) Who
says that just because you visit this newsgroup that you should get
ANYTHING for nothing. (Other than the requisite SPAM of course, as well as
"legal" opinions, unwanted libel, slander and so forth.)

To all those who get worked up about the legalities of Dave's position re
Papyrus:
1. In the last few days, it seems that there are a number of individuals
that became lawyers overnight. No need to state Dave's case here, because
that is none of your business. It is strictly between he and Payrus. If
Papyrus sees fit to do anything, let them.
2. YOU, worried about Dave's position? Especially when you are willing to
download it from pirate sites! UNREAL  It's OK for you to steal, but not
for anyone else. What hypocrites!

There....off my soapbox. If you want to burn my soapbox, so be it....no
need to flame me or spam me, thank you.

Again, Dave, keep your chin up. (just watch out for the low blow, or the
upper-cut) I know how it is to get darts as well as punches thrown at me
from this newsgroup.

Thanks for listening to my point-of-view.

That's the really scary thing about all this - Dave actually HAS given
them something for free, and still these pathetic little whiners
complain about it like their first-born child has been stolen.
