N2HQ Installation

Ok, I downloaded the most recent N2hq 32-bit (I'm running win95).  I
run the setup.exe program after unzipping the files and it says it is
'Copying initialization files...'  The disk goes for a few seconds and
then an error window/box pops up, saying 'Unexpected error; quitting.'
and that's that.  I've tried downloading n2hq from 4 different nascar2
sites and this has happened every time, so it wasn't just a bad
download fluke.  I had n2hq before and it ran fine.  This was before
the '32 bit version' came out.  Anyway, can anyone help with this?

An addendum to that...  After hunting down and re-installing a bunch
of visual basic libraries and stuff, I decided to just start over with
a clean download of the very latest version of n2hq.  I grabbed the
latest win95 full version.  It seemed to install fine.  But when I try
to run it, I get 'Unexpected error; quitting.'  Not exactly a very
helpful error message.  What's with all the different vb libraries
anyway?  For example, n2hq installs a comctl32.ocx that's about 200k
larger than the comctl32.ocx I've seen elsewhere.

I've experienced the same problems recently with the latest versions of n2hq.
I would guess that there is a conflict with a dll or some such that wasn't a
problem with earlier versions of n2hq. I'm actually able to install and run it
on a machine at work, but not on my machine at home. More detective work is
needed to figure out which dll is causing the problem.

You are not alone!

N2HQ Installation

Eventually, I found out that there was a problem also with my ole32
and oleaut stuff, so I snagged those off some web page (don't remember
which, but searching for these brings up plenty of them).  I installed
and registered them and my problems were solved.  Incidentally, I
mentioned in one of my other posts that the comctl32 that n2hq
installs is like 200k larger than any of the other version I've
seen... Well I was using some app today that used comctl32 also and it
gave me a warning that the version I was using was meant to be used
only for Windows NT...  Any idea what's up with that?  I mean should I
keep the version n2hq installed (without asking me if it should
overwrite existing versions, I might add), or go back to a previous
version?
