Has anybody tried running GPL with either the beta vers. or RC! of win2000
(another fine virus!).

Of course video was only the beginning, my SB Live card didn't
offer up a gameport using the default drivers so I had to try
out a host of hacked together ones. That problem was overcome
but then GPL started dropping sound while playing. You'll be driving
along and the engine song will cut out and then back in - very
annoying. As an experiment I plugged in an old SB AWE64 card
but it too suffers from the sound problem. I'm guessing it is
a DirectX 7 issue. The sound does beat the NT4 version
though.
Lastly I tried out VROC and it was a no go using IE 5 under NT 5.
Since I don't want to mess with Netscape I downloaded GPL
Spy Boy (1.X & 2) but it won't come up under NT 5, it just
hangs on the splash screen. Grrr. VROC seems to have
worked itself out though after I retried it at a later date.
Ignoring the sound problem I tried to race online but I suffered
from various 37 fps related problems and gave up on the
online foo. Too bad offline suffers from the same thing as well,
I can feel my skills eroding as I type this in.
So as a last gasp effort I tried GPL 1.0 but it dies on entry under
NT 5. So to summarize, GPL 1.1 works but suffers from sound
and timing problems on my box (PII 450 Mhz SMP with a
Voodoo3 3000 and SB Live). I don't think the situation
will get any better until either GPL 1.2 is released or Win2K
is released.
Oh yeah, I didn't really notice any FPS improvement during race
starts either, I guess my system is 3D video bound at the moment.
Still I probably can run a dedicated server on one CPU and still
get work done on the other. Maybe I'll try that out later.
