Win2000&Voodoo3&GPL=crash?

by Tuomas Paasial » Wed, 28 Jun 2000 04:00:00

Hello all.

Is there any way to get GPL work in Win 2000 with Voodoo3? Everytime when i
start GPL it freezes up whole machine and reset is only way to get over it,
ctrl-alt-del won't help. I think that problem has something to do with glide
since when i start GPL with opengl rasterizer i can get to GPL main menu
but screen is very small and real slow. Software rendering works fine but
it is so SLOW...I have latest Voodoo3 drivers from 3dfx

OH YEA!  That problem!  Hehe, haven't seen it in ages, but theres a very
nice fix to that issue!  Download the newest Drivers from 3D F/X for your
Voodoo3 card and it'll fix the problem cause many of the Stock Win2k Drivers
don't support D3D which leads to a whole slew of problems.

I had this problem, and fixed it by installing the George Smiley Glide2x
patch (sorry, I can't remember the URL).

You actually need this anyway to prevent the 3dfx texture corruption bug
(the patch prevents the resolution from changing, at the expense of making
the menus look messy).

Anyway, the good news is that it's *definitely* possible to get
Win2000&Voodoo3&GPL to work!

Hi.

I installed D3D7 patch and now it works, but little slow. In training i get
36fps and that's fine,  but when i start race with 20 cars on track frames
drops in start to 8-10 fps and it's quite difficult to get good start..After
start it goes to 25-28fps, and that's fine.

Anyway, thanks for help. I guess i have to just wait new drivers from 3dfx
to get glide work and use d3d7 driver meanwhile.

Have you tried the Voodoo 5 drivers with the voodoo 3?

I have been running them in '98 and they are very stable and quite fast.
Perhaps they might do the job for win2k too.

Good Luck

Ash
