GPL No Full Screen mode??

Just picked up GPL today, and is it forever stuck in letterbox mode?
(I think thats what it is called)  I have a large black border around
the screen, and the game plays in a smaller window.   Does this at
640x480 and 800x600.  (using a V2 card)  Will software mode run in
full screen?
I hope whatever version of Nascar that will use this engine isn't
going to have this "feature" as well?   Still hoping I missed
something!?

Thanks,
Andy

Nope. Go rent the widescreen version of "Grand Prix" and see why Papy
did it that way. I doubt they'll do the same with Nascar.

Personally, I think it's pretty cool.

I guess I'll have to rent the movie. :-)  I would have guessed it was
to help with frame rate though?
Anyway, after playing it some more, I honestly can't say I find it
distracting.  I was just a bit "stunned" when I first saw it. and
since the screen shots on the  box didn't show this, it was
unexpected.
Thanks for the  info!

Andy
(for the record I still don't want it in Nascar) :-)

Actually that would be the "same", since the***pit (even if it will
somehow be in 3d) will cover the black part of the letterbox ;-)

Of course, I might be wrong...

From what I hear, thats the only way to view the game. Kinda sad isnt
it? I gotta wonder why the have choosen this video format, besides
frame rate advantage of course. I cant stand not being able to use the
fullness of my 21 in. monitor.

You can ofcourse expand the vertical axis of your monitor, so that the
letterbox indeed gets full-screen. Won't help the resolution, won't affect
the framerate, and it will affect other things you do in that resolution.
But it might be worth a try.

Well I only have a 19 in monitor so I'm not hurting quite as bad as
you. :-)   As I said in a previous post, it doesn't bother me near as
bad now that I've played it some more.   Would be nice if it would
have been an option though.  (if that was possible)

I did try that. :-)  It works, but it puts everything way out of
proportion.

I really like the wide screen view and do not even notice the black
bars any more. I believe NFS3 also has a wide screen view as an option
and I feel this is the start of a new trend in video games.
If you are an avid sim racer, GPL is just too good to neglect for this
one reason.

Why would you want to trade fps for worthless sky graphics?

Hmmm, they'll just look like this season's F1 cars compared to last
season's - cinemascope film projected through a non-cinemascope lens.

Guess I'm not an avid sim racer then. Which is correct btw. :)
Alot of games have this 'feature'. I personally dont like it at all.
Its a waste of good immersion effect. I like to see the ground and
surroundings move around me not just right at me. I dont care much for
dashs either. Dashboards are another waste of screen usage. :) Unless
they are functional in some way of course.

They take up space on the screen, and do not require updating (unless
you have a moving steering wheel?) thus leaving less space to
be updated by the cpu, (the track, other cars, scenery, etc) thus
saving valuable resources?

When I go above 800x600 my screen doesn't handle the display properly and I
get fullscreen instead of
letterbox. Weird. I'm upgrading my monitor really soon though :(
