Cant get GPL full screen above 640*480??

by Jeff » Sat, 10 Jun 2000 04:00:00

Hi,
I've just re-installed GPl on a newly built up windows 98 machine
running a CL TNT2 Ultra and cant get the OpenGL
patch (ver2) to run full screen above 640*480. I get a portion of the screen
running in the top left corner.

Im using the latest 5.22 CL drivers but no amount of fiddling with the
display director parameters makes any difference. This is really annnoying!

I would really appreciate somebody giving me some things to try out to fix
it?

I used to run GPL at 1024*768 in openGL fine when the machine was Win95 and
I was using the Nvidia 2.08 drivers, is it likely to be a driver problem
with the 5.22's? The main reason I upgraded the drivers was to get rid of
the mirror flicker because 'use block transfer' is one of the buffer
flipping options with the new drivers.

Help!

Jeff

Yep, we REALLY need a FAQ for this one.
This question comes up at least once a day, if not more.
If I have time I'll put together a GPL FAQ for NVIDIA chipsets this weekend.
In the meantime, try version 3.68 or 3.77 of the drivers.  They are better
suited to your TNT2.
The 5.xx drivers are really for the Geforce cards.
Cheers,
...Colin

Um... what can you see of the screen? The normal window but shrunk in
the corner or the 1000/800 but only a 600/400 area view able? If the
second one, which didn't stop happening to until a while ago, the
computer may just need to be rebooted (upon further thought, GPL would
have had to crash for the second one). In my expert opinion, in an
irrational way, get the closest sludge hammer and inform the computer
who's boss  :)

This is exactly what I experienced when I switched from 2.08 to the
latest version. Went back to 2.08 and everythings fine.

Cant get GPL full screen above 640*480??

Hello,

I had the same problem when I updated to the CL 5.22 drivers and it seems
like GPL does not like the new 5.22 "Nvopengl.dll" ICD file.  What I did to fix
the game was to extract the same file from the CL 3.68 drivers and I put it in the
GPL folder.  The game will use the 3.68 ICD and all your other games will still
use your current setup.  Hope this helps.

Good luck.

This may be completely irrelevant, but here goes anyway.  I used to get
a similar problem with GPL, only being able to see the whole screen in
640x480, with all higher resolutions only showing part of the display -
despite the fact that I ran windows at 1024x768 I might add.  What I
discovered was that my monitor had a different configuration for each
res and that the only one configured correctly was 640x480.  All I had
to do was move the screen around with the monitor buttons and, hey
presto, there was the complete image.  Like I said despite the fact that
1024x768 worked fine when displaying the desktop.  I can only presume
that there are settings for both 2D and 3D modes for my monitor or some
such.
