and download the G200 patch for GPL. It's only 54 KB.
It works at resolutions up to 1280x1024, but that's for
screen shots only. (I got about 7 fps when alone.) Alone
on the track, with all options cranked, it gives 36 fps at
640x480 and 25 fps at 800x600. Turning down a few options
(cars and track only in mirrors, detail bias down to 50%)
gives 36 fps alone at 800x600, 16 fps from the back of the
pits behind 19 other cars. (I have a P2 currently running
at 412 MHz. My G200 is not overclocked right now.)
There are some graphical glitches -- the racing line is
clipped immediately in front of your car, some texture
sparkling is visible at the edges of the trees at Monza,
and I saw some black boxes around clouds once. It's
noted in the readme that this is version 01 and glitches
are to be expected. Kudos to Matrox for letting us play
with it anyway; let's hope they continue to refine it.
Other than the artifacts, the image quality is outstanding.
As with 3Dfx cards, the anti-aliasing option is grayed.
GPL pagefaults if I try to run it from a 24- or 32-bpp
desktop, but dropping to 16 bpp before running it
eliminates the problem. I'm running DX6 and the
4.26 beta 2 G200 drivers.
