But first System Info:

300A Celeron O/C'd to 450MHZ
Abit BH6 Motherboard
Panasonic32X CD-ROM
Fujitsu 4.3G HD
64Megs SDRAM PC100
SB128 PCI
Matrox G200 Millenium 16 Megs
Guillemont 3dFX Voodoo 1 board

Problems:
Under G200, something is awfully wrong with the graphics  -- like a bad
printing job -- colours all out of alignment.

GPL won't accept 3dfx at all with the overclocked system.  Works OK with my
P166MMX with the 3dfx card.  I can only play GPL in software mode.

All other games work fine -- in D3D, 3dfx, software and hardware mode.

Is it the G200 beta drivers that are causing all the problems?

If you haven't already, drop to 16bpp before starting GPL.

Have you tried clocking your system down to spec?

I have a Millennium G200 with the 4.26 beta 2 drivers and the release
1 GPL patch.  I have no problem running the game on a Voodoo 1 card.
(There's a .ini file in the GPL directory that you can edit to select
which 3D DLL to use, in case you can't get into the game menus to do
so because of a configuration problem.)

Nope.  They work fine for me.
