Get a PCI soundcard.  It'll have a PCI gamecard on it.  As an added bonus
your soundcard won't hog so many CPU cycles.  I nice inexpensive one is the
Turtle Beach Montego.

The Montego works fine with GPL but have been unable to get it to work
with MGPRS2. The sound works fine in menus and when loading a track but
not in the car which is the only place you really want it. I have not
been able to find a solution that works so far. Tried changing the INI
file to use Win 95 settings but still no joy. re-install didn't help
either. If any one has found a solution there are a few Montego users
who would like to know what it is. I have a TSW and it works fine in Win
98. Have had a few problems with GP 2 but I have not tried to seriously
fix them since I don't use GP 2 much any more.

I dont know for sure if this will help you, but I believe the Montego card
uses A3D which apparently doesnt work very well with F1RS or MGPRS2, I have
an A3D card and experienced problems. I found that disabling the hardware
acceleration in the Vortex control panel solved the sound problem in MGPRS2,
except that I lost sound on the intro movie.
Maybe this will help you, but I dont really know what causes the problem.

Thanks Ian,

Tried your suggestion and it at least works in the car now. Not happy
with the sound yet, but, I think a little fiddling with the hardware
acceleration might make it better. Now if I could just get CMR to work
without Indeo 5 ( which trashes all the Ubisoft sims) I will be set up
for the long winter with CMR, MGPRS2, F1RS, GPL, Nascar 2 3DFX, and
ICR2. GP2 doesn't seem to work quite right in DOS with the Monetego game
controller and my TSW. Now that I have a 450 Mhz (Celeron 300A) set-up I
might actually be able to tell what track I am racing on in GP2 ;-)

Do you have the Montego? If so, what controller?

I have the Montego and Thrustmaster Sprint Wheel, and Im not able to
calibrate in Windows. Im talking to Thrustmaster support, but no luck
so far.

Knudse.

If in doubt ... overtake.

Say Hey Gearheads,

I also have a TM Sprint. My calibration works fine, but I have to do the TM
cal in Win98 before each session, and every time I get kicked out of the game.
(Another sad tale!) One probelem encountered is the WILD amount of wheelspin
and wheel lockup encountered with the "helps" turned off. The lockup can be
dealt with in brake bias, but it's a very delicate balance. The wheel systems
may add realism, but I've found much better control using a good joystick.
As for the gamecard question, I'm looking for one myself. GPL is the BEST, and
deserves all the system tweaks and upgrades possible! (Someone please tell my
Wife!!)
