F12001 - Formation lap / safety car

Fellow drivers,

Here's a cool link that gives instructions on enabling formation laps and
the safety car in EA's F1 2001.  Somebody let me know if it works.

By the way, has anyone been able to get v1.4 of that telemetry program
working?  That thing has me stumped!

Yeah, It's pretty cool. You get the safety car, the medical car... both are
pretty crude compared to the actual race cars in terms of detail, and they
have the same sound as an F1 car. Fun to drive just to see the difference in
physics tho (you *will* go off on the 1st turn!). You also get an extra
Arrows and an extra Jordan (the goofy-winged cars at Monaco's first
practice), and the Arrows 3-seater and a Minardi 2-seater.

The formation lap is cool while it lasts (If Heidfeld doesn't punt you off),
but when you get ready to take your place on the grid the AI cars just get
jumbled up and stop on the racing line on the frontstretch, not allowing the
race to start.

Warlock,

I finally got around to trying it out and had the same problem on the
formation lap.  As you know, the drivers go relatively slowly on real F
laps, swerving in order to break in their tires.  In F1-2K's "Quick Race",
the drivers take off on the F lap as if they were racing.  Three drivers
passed me and 2 drivers crashed before we returned to the grid.  As you
said, they all seemed to forget where they were parked on the starting grid
when they returned, so the race never started.  After a while, I got
impatient and took off in my McLaren, leaving everyone else at the grid.  As
i approached the Rascasse turn at Monaco, my computer got very sluggish,
then locked up, then did a physical memory dump--the first time I've
succeeded in crashing Win2K Pro.

No sign of the safety car yet in my 2nd race.  But after hearing about your
success, I'll keep trying.

No, no, no... you get to *DRIVE* the safety car and the other cars I mentioned.
When choosing the car you would normally choose for a race/practice/whatever,
scroll thru all the available rides and you'll get to the additional cars at the
end of the scroll list. Choose which one you want to drive and start your
race/practice. The Arrows with the funky wing is kinda cool because it seems to
act as an aiming sight for your next on-track victim... hehe.

race/practice/whatever,

Oh!  I see what you mean!  It has all the training cars, plus the safety and
the medical cars.  Cool.  I would have been driving forever, wondering when
the safety car would emerge from the pits!.  Thanks Warlock.
