GPL:Tire Temp/Formation Lap

I'm assuming in '67 they did a formation lap like today, but if so, does the
starting tire temp. in GPL take that into consideration at the beginning of
a race?

I don't recall off the top of my head when they started doing the formation
lap, but I know it's much more recent than '67.

It was '64, I believe, when they started using a "dummy grid." Cars would
line up on a grid spaced back the track from the actual grid. The cars would
be started there, and then move up to the actual grid.

This was done to eliminate the situatiion where a car would refuse to start
on the line and resultant mayhem that ensues.

Tire temps would be stone cold.
