Running Sim After Computer's Been on Awhile ???

I apologize in advance if this is a silly question....  but,   if I
start up GPL at the beginning of the day it fires up in about 4 seconds.  At
the end of the day it seems to drag and take about 30 secs to load up.  It
seems to run fine both times (although Heat seems to drag at the end of the
day.)  I'm running T-Bird 1gig, GeForce2 MX, 256MG RAM, WIN 98 ME. I close
all other applications before running the sim.  Is it:

1) The computer getting hot by the end of the day and slowing down? (it
doesn't seem hot)

2) Even though I close applications do bits of them stay in RAM or virtual
memory and take up resources and slow things down?

3) Work through out the day is slowly driving me insane and I'm imagining
it?

Depending on the answer to the above is it worth while rebooting up the
computer to clear things or even leave it off for 15 minutes to cool down.

Just curious.   TIA.

I'd say #2.

If I plan on running for awhiole I always rebot before racing. If I just
want to do a few laps or check something out then I won't bother. I doubt
heat is a problem. Heat would be an issue if you locked up during game play.

Definitely #2.
Win9x will not clean up after messy applications.
Just one out of about 10000 reasons to move to WinXP. :)

<snip>

Having to swap stuff out of virtual memory, less
available memory thanks to all your leaky windows
applications that have been running all day etc
etc.

There's problem some complex physics stuff like
hot drives taking slightly longer to do things,
overall expansion of traces in the mobo but I'm
just going off on a tangent.

One of of 10,000 reasons to shut your machine down after you're
done with what you. If you come back later in the evening from
the missus, you can always turn it back on. As opposed to
women, there *is* a switch for that on computers, you know...

There's a switch for the women, too.  We just don't always know where/what it
is...<g>

Right click on "My Computer", go to "Properties", select the "Performance"
tab and look at the System Resources percentage.  Check this when you first
boot up, and compare it at the end of the day.  As others have mentioned in
this thread, Windows apps don't seem to clean up after themselves. By all
means take the time to reboot.

IIRC, GPL looks for an internet connection for up to 30 seconds
during its its startup.  Would there be any difference in its ability
to find a connection between your morning and evening sessions (maybe
you're offline in the evening and it runs to the 30 sec timeout)?
Just a thought.

nothing to be frightened of, and no limit, any fool could get into
a motor car and racing would not exist as a sport." -- Jim Clark
