I believe Revved's sound pack (the latest version) fixes this with louder
recordings of the incar engine sound and softer recordings of outside engine
noise.  It should be found at either http://www.racesimcentral.net/ or

#24 Monte Carlo in the DORL

Bruce,

the patch gives cars around you the outside sounds and your car in the dash
view has the inside sounds.  You can adjust these with a wav player.  Also
many guys who have worked out new sounds have already done this.

Glad to see you like the game, to me its a blast, but still a challenge.
Easier then GPL, but it should be since the tires are twice as wide and 10
times as sticky.

My son just obtained a second-hand copy of SCGT and this is FUN!! :-) why
wasn't I advised of this before now??!!

He's updated it with a patch (1.5 or something) and some car shapes but
there is one thing that we both find annoying and that's the sound.  Is
there any way to modify the ratio of player car sound to AI car sounds? When
driving in a pack it is impossible to pick out you sound from all those
other screaming Porsches and BMWs!!

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks David.
Yes, it's certainly great fun and, to be perfectly honest, a nice change
from the severity of GPL :-)

Which waves should I edit to make the in-car sound of the BMW louder??

Yep, SCGT is great fun.  It's the kind of game you can play while drinking a
cup of coffee.  :)

It's also got some great features-

1) Pit-stops for fuel, tyres and to repair damage
2) A career mode
3) Wet weather races
4) Night racing

that is the tough part.  Each car has a matching .veh file that
contains all the info about the car.  Included in the .veh file are
the various .wav files used for the sounds.  Usually there are 4 .wav
files.  Two for Idle and Two for acceleration.  You need to find out
the name of the car you have chosen...which isn't easy, and then find
the matching .veh file.  Once you've done that, you can look up in the
sound folder the .wav files that are shown in the .veh file.  The best
way is to look at the car #'s and try and match it up.
My sounds folder has tons of extra sound files so I don't know what
is  original and what has been added on later.  But I see 4 .wav files
that
start with BMW3 two of them have a last letter e and two have the last
letter i so I'm "guessing" IF these are the original sounds, the two
with an i ending are intererior sounds..try editing those.

BMW3ii.wav & BMW3ri.wav in the sounds 22k folders.
BMW3ie.wav & BMW3re.wav "should" be the exterior files.  But You'll need
someone more familiar with the stock sounds to figure that out.

Yea, I tried the demo last night. Pretty good. But has the damage
modelling been tweaked in the latest version? Seems I can ram a
railing with not too much damage being inflicted. Also I have noticed
that with two cotrollers on my computer it defaults to the second ID#
instead of ID#1. All games (except EAW) default to controller ID#1
when more than one device is installed. Has this been fixed in the
full game or am I going to have to switch ID#'s everytime I go to play
this game? I like it though and will probably buy it regardless of the
above issues.

The manufacturers wouldn't sign off on seeing images of their pretty
cars dinged up so ISI had to disable the damage.  Your car still takes
damage, they just can't show it.  there are several patches out there
that turn on the damage modeling but even then it is nothing special.
The game "should" recognize the first device, but remember it was
started pre-Win98.  I'm not sure how well it will like two devices
connected.  I always make it a point to only have one active device.
Unless trying to mix and match pedals and wheels of course.  It is more
convieniant to be able to leave the different joysticks active, but I've
found not all developers expected this and sometimes odd things happen.
make sure you get the Advanced OPtions Editor as well to disable the
very sticky grass they programmed.  And the better physics availble via
that editor.

Yes, as I have discovered, Simon, it is possible (although I don't think I'd
want to do it) to race for 24 hours!  I also like the fact that, in a long
race, it is possible to slot a relief driver into the***pit, go out
shopping and then take over again.  However, the driver that I hired for the
3-hour race I did yesterday will not be returning.....he was ***y
pathetic, to say the least. :-)

Definitely better with the more realistic (slippery) grass and track
surface...the latter being great in the wet.

spoke:

OK, I'll get the editor, thx. I have two game controllers on the USB
ports so it's not a problem for games, it's just the ID# that needs to
be switched around on some games. I will be attaching a wheel/pedal
combo to the game port on my SB Live! soon so I will have three
devices attached and don't forsee any problems. Another thing I
noticed in the demo is that with a V3 I don't have the 1024x768 res
available to me, that should only happen with a V2. Is that fixed in
the patch?

Open up the vehicle.mas and look to see what sound coursponds tothe BMW
inside sound.  Do not save the file or change the Mas file since you
notepad is a will***up file.

then go out and change the volume with a sound recorder.  That is what I
did.  Also if you get the new GTVE it will give you the wav file name when
you open up the BMW file.  GTVE is great, I have created a lot of cars with
it and you can really do a lot to change handling and hp of cars.  It only
changes the chassis values not the body.
