POLL: What race lengths do you run?

by Michael E. Carve » Fri, 02 Oct 1998 04:00:00

This poll is an offshoot of the "GPL racesave discussion":

When you race, what length of races do you usually run (10%, 25%, 50%,
100%, etc.)?

What simulation does the above apply to?

Are you racing online, offline league, or solo vs. AI?

If your race lengths are shorter than 75%, why this length?

If you race lengths are greater than 66%, why this length?

Thanks.....

Nascar2 -I race whatever length it will take for everyone to have to amke one
pitstop. I guess this is normally 25% on most tracks. The reason I do this is
so that if i burn up my tires or am just having a bad run i can use pit
strategy since the AI has none. Ray and Jeff aren't the only ones winning with
two tire stops.

45%  This seems to be the best compromise for my tastes. Gives me a long
enough race to induce a bit of "fatigue", as well as introducing pit
strategy, which I find a lot of fun.

N2, ICR2

Always solo, against tweaked AI.

See above.

N/A.

You're welcome. BTW, it's great seeing you back into simming Michael,
and back on r.a.s.!

Most 100%, sometimes 30%

GP2, F1RS, SODA

Solo vs AI

Then I select "easy" mode, and start at the back. Can I get to the
first place before the race is over? Lot of passing.

Realisme and race strategy. I don't know why actually, most of the
time I don't finish the race... (Except SODA, but there the AI mostly
fail to finish)

Remco

BTW. A "save game" option isn't important to me.

40 - 50 %

ICR2 (road courses), sometimes also GP2

solo or 2 player on null modem

One hour for the entire event (qualifying and race) is enough for me.
Also, during a 2hrs race on the weekend, the phone will ring at least
once, which is very distracting even if I don't have to answer it. I
could unplug it, but that would mean serious domestic trouble. ;)
Shorter "sprint" races, OTOH, depend too much on luck. You just don't
have enough time to make a comeback after a mistake.

Why are you asking this question this way? Do people who race 70%
events have to answer both above questions? In different ways?

BTW, I don't miss a savegame feature in racing sims. I tend to crash
after a break anyway, since my concentration and timing are gone, so I
wouldn't use it if it was there.

25-50% when playing via modem.

100% except big tracks like Michigan, Fontana, Pocono & Tally. Where I vary
the total distance to 400, 500, & 600 milers.

Michael,

Since we changed threads I thought I would answer again. I consider myself a
hard core simmer (I'm on Kali
and Mplayer for Burnout, but I haven't had time to sign upon ten for NROS !)

I'm a busy 44 year CPA with my own practice. My computer time at my Sim
computer is limited
to about 3 1/2 hours a day. (i.e. 6:00 am to 6:30am & 5:30 pm to 8:30pm) In
this time, Read all of my email, my various listserves, this and 3 other
newsgroups. After that, I  try to do some fun racing on Nascar2, Burnout,
NHRA Drag Racing,  F1RS, Motoracer, Castrol Superbike, CART by Sierra and
the various demos such as Monster truck Madness, GPL and F1 RS 2.

About three times a week,  I try to run N2 at the current race location
 e.g. This week its C***te) and I usually  run 5.00% races ! It's short
and fun ! Someday, I'll try to run a 25-30% race with pitstops, etc.

Today, I going out of town for two days so no more Sim racing until Sunday.
