ICR2 less than full length races

ICR2 less than full length races

by Tim Jacks » Fri, 29 Mar 1996 04:00:00

Does any one know if there is any way to make all cars start with less
than a full tank of gas and thus have to pit during short races.

I usually race at 20% of normal distance which means that no pit stops
are eliminated.

I would have liked to have seen a option whereby a 20% race length
would give all racers only 20% of a tank of gas (ie. 8 litres).

Thanks

ps. Thanks to Mike Donnelly who pointed out to me that the NASCAR
Secrets and  Strategies was published by Sybex. I contacted the
company and apparently a version for ICR2 is in progress.

Am I to assume that all AI cars pit for new tires and 40 gallons,
regardless of how much race is left? This question has been bugging me
lately.

In the <track>.txt file, change the last two numbers in the SPDWY setting.
These are the min and max laps at which the AI can go on a single run (IOW, it
determines the lap they pit on).

Thanks.

Here's another question for you- when racing with "damage off" option,
do I still get tire wear? And do crashes/scrapes add tire wear? I
assume they do, but sometimes I think I just get very sloppy after
racing awhile, and I can't tell if it is my tires losing grip or my
concentration losing grip.

If anyone knows how the "tire wear equation" works, please post.

No, no can do.  This has been suggested on the Papyrus BBS in the
past, but seemed to be a low priority item.  (This was before ICR2
and it ain't in there, so...)  Sorry.

Have you heard any definite word on when this will be released?
The ad in the back of the NASCAR book says March '96.  I've checked
Sybex's web site and saw no mention of it and my local Babbage's
(generally pretty good for knowing about new releases coming in)
had no information on it.  :(

Pick one or more: Model Rockets (competition-NERCB) / PCs (even Atari!) /
ICR-PRO / NASCAR-NRL / Who needs a life when you have multiple non-lives?

YES!

Anything where you hear significant tire squeal is causing significant tire
wear.

Significant tire squeal (or unbalanced car or taking corner too fast) = more
tire wear.  Try softening shocks on wearing tires...

tires do wear even with damage off.  In fact, you can even blow a tire
with damage off if you wear it badly enough.  Put a soft overinflated tire
on your RF at Michigan and then drive about 10 laps pushing in every turn...

This option may not be what yall are looking for, but if want you want
is the AI cars pitting at the same time as you, you can alter the
"SPDWY" line in the track text file.  Take Bristol for instance, and
it looks like this: SPDWY 0 75 92 .  This means the AI will pit
between laps 75-92 under green flag racing.  This won't affect the gas
the AI have, but it will affect pit stops.  And I have found that they
will pit under yellow if they have run about 60% of the way to the
minimum pitting lap.  It comes in handy if you have a 40-50 setup that
goes away after the 50th. lap, you can make the AI pit around the same
time.

Don't know if this is what you're looking for, but hope it helps
someone.  :->

What the hell are you talking about??  You alter the SPDWY settings in the
<track>.txt file to change the AI's pit window!
