while trying to run burnout it goes back to desktop. Any ideas?

Sounds like your loading the hardware (3DFX) version and you don't have a
3DFX card to support it.

actually, only installing software version.

Did you install hardware version.  If so do you have a 3dfx card.  If
not then reinstall with software version
