Burnout -Problem and Solution

by Tim Deatherag » Mon, 21 Sep 1998 04:00:00

I recently installed a 6 gig HD and re-installed some sims that I had
previously removed because of space limitations. Therefore, I recently
revived my interest in Burnout which is primarily for non-professional car
classes. The first thing I did was download the 1.23 patch.

However, I encountered a problem that I have seen here on this NG, before.

Whatever car and/or setup I used I couldn't get the automatic transmissions
to shift into 2nd gear ! Even when I used a standard transmission the
maximum RPM would peak out at 6,000. the fastest PS time I could get was
13.00+ seconds ! ! ! I even tried to uninstall Burnout, then re-install it
and the 1.23 patch with no improvement!!

Then,  I contacted  the Guru of Sim drag racing, Don Wilshe ! He,like I,
must have been online all day Saturday
He and I exchanged over 15 emails Saturday where he patiently had me
download the pro-setups from WHRA then he had me check the clutch speed,
the transmission settings, other settings,  and finally my controller
settings.( I have a TM GP1)   Well it seems that while the wheel calibration
settings appeared normal but they WEREN'T !

What I did was:
            1. Went to "Calibrate Joystick 1"
            2. Clicked on "RESET"
            3. Then calibrated and made the new settings were saved!

Bingo, I am now able to max out the rpm's using either/or an automatic or
standard transmission. Obviously, the throttle paddle wasn't calibrated and
max gas was only 1/2 of full.

My first PS time was 7.19 ! I still have a long way to go but it's now
working ! ! ! If anyone else is having problems with automatic transmissions
not shifting ( because the rpms won't go above 6K-7K) try resetting the
calibration THEN calibrate !

THANKS Don WILSHE, a ***-steak-dinner is on the way !
