GPL and D3D

Having moved on from a Voodoo card, ( don't laugh), I have for the first
time been running GPL in D3D mode on a GeForce 2 card on a much faster
machine. ( My previous Celeron 300A now serves as a game computer for my 5
and 6 yo children - a far cry from it's start-of-the-art GPL over-clocked
days when it was the latest thing. I wonder if it misses the roar of the F1
V8s and the thrill of the race. How sad ! ).

Nether-the-less ... Progress happens.

Even though my system is much faster, an Athlon 1600+, and the video card is
a Geforce Pro 2 with 6m mb ram, and has an Audigty sound card, on Win 982nd,
there occurs these frequent short pause within gameplay. Very off-putting.
Just like a blink now and then for a fraction of a second.

I though that maybe there are certain ways to set up GPL for D3D, things to
switch on or off on the card, whatever ???

Any ideas anyone ?

Cheers

Phillip

You need to olok into getting the directx direct 3d rasterizer for GPL.  At
the moment not sure what site to get from.  Maybe try bhmotorsports.com
since RSC been down.  If you can't locate reply here and a I can send you a
copy (its a small file 288k). give me a email and can help u out.  It works
well for alot of us with ATI cards and such.

Unless you have something against using it, I highly recommend using the OGL
rasterizer since you have a GeForce card.  Check the GPL forums at
www.racesimcentral.com for the Modified OGL rasterizer by WiHerr.  Much
better fps, AND it fixes the few bugs like corrupted replay text most get
when using the D3D rasterizer.

I've put together an FAQ for troubles like this at
http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=105748

There's also a thread for adjusting the core.ini graphics values at
http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=48326&high...

Stuttering can be caused by a lot of different things.  Often it's
another application running in the background.  Certainly e-mail
should be shut off.  See the FAQ for other ideas.  Sometimes you just
have to live with it if it isn't too bad.

Unfortunately that forum that those links are to is down now but
should be back up in a few days at the most.

There is a known problem with Audigy2 cards and Win98SE. In case your Audigy
is an Audigy2.

If you use the WDM drivers. The Creative WDM drivers are ***on Win98SE and
can cause stuttering. What you do is read the yellow info slip Creative
shipped with the card that tells you how to remove the WDM drivers and
install the VXD drivers. Really stupid method because you *must* install the
WDM drivers then use a utility to uninstall them and then install the VXD
drivers using the same utility. Another possible solution on Win98SE is to
try out the KX drivers for the Audigy2.
