Any WUXIA-based movie will have such fantasy Larry.

Do a websearch on Wuxia, you'll be quite surprised.  Perhaps not many
American movies allow that, but around the world, in Asia Wuxia has been in
tons and tons of movies.  The Matrix was a pale copy of those.  Now the
American MTV generation thinks it's a great step in motion picture, like it
was the first one ever do have "people flying in the air" (to paraphrase
them).

        'an obvious Matrix rip-off'

Is your knowledge of cinematic history limited to the last
five years?  Do you read Greek mythology and Arthurian legends and
think, 'Man, they're ripping Lucas and Spielberg off!'?

I'm tempted to quote the Grandfather from 'The Princess Bride'
but I'll paraphrase:
It has heroes, villians, romance, action, treachery, passion, comedy and
great sadness....few movies have such scope of a simple tale about  a sword
and those who use it.
the actors all speak chinese and that can be odd, but the subtitles seemed
to me to fit very well.  They didn't detract from the quiet scenes with
Michelle Yeoh and Cho Jun Fat, nor did they get in the way when the
Govenor's daughter was kicking ass and taking names in the bar.
I'm changing my racing team from TEAM SMO(slow moving objects)
to Team Green Destiny....  Anyone want to paint an Intrepid for me with
a sword running down the side?

I agree. If there's any justice, it's a shoe-in for the best movie
Academy award - none of the other nominates are even in the same
league. But notice that I said IF there's any justice. ;-)

>If
>so, what more does this movie have?

Character, life, action, story, acting. Quality. All those things none
of the other best picture candidates have.

It's been described as "martial arts meets kung fu", which is kind of
apt. It's not a typical martial arts film at all. I think you'd love
it.

Reminded me strongly of those old, badly dubbed 'films' I used to see on
sunday afternoon on a uhf channel in a block called 'Samurai Sunday'. Was
silly then, is still silly now.

Wow.  You are a crude one.  Pretty hopeless.  Stick with Paulie
Shore flicks, OK?

Forgive the ignorant American giving the rest of us a bad name.  He,
like so many others, refuses to see why the whole world can't just get around
to learning English.

Everything.  Honestly, everything.  People of every type of
tastes in films or flicks that I talk to love it.

Just trust what you hear.  Really.  And perhaps go early enough
to catch it twice in a row.

The fight scenes and scenery are good, true, but the acting,
music, plot, story are wonderful.  I'll mention acting again, as I think
it a true tragedy that this movie did not get at least 3 acting
nominations from the academy.

Hmmmm.  Haven't seen Chocolate, so won't comment.  I thought
Traffic has some going for it, especially in political realm.  And
Gladiator certainly has all of the above, though it pales in all areas to
Tiger/Dragon.

And that last sentance will have to say it all.  I rated
Gladiator 4 stars (out of 4--I'm loath to give most movies more than 3).
I was convinced after seeing it that it would be the one to beat for the
Oscars.  Tiger/Dragon blows it away in every category.

Whatever. I guess that's why it was nominated for 12 academy awards
including Phoenix for best supporting actor. What you call bland
colours, I call muted, high contrast was very effective. You sure that
wasn't infrared cinematogrphy you are talking about? Just take a look
at Decline of the American Empire for crappy cinematography. That
should shut you up. That movie was nothing more than a geriatric
version of the Big Chill.Talk about a cliche'. Spartacus for real
performances? Hehe...it was a great epic film, but don't try and BS me
with great acting. Kirk Douglas was one of the most stereotypical
actors of his day. Right up there with John Wayne. Although he did do
a few good things.

Man, CTHD is now at number 7 of the 'best 250 movies' list at IMDB..
