Uhhh, no. Gee the MTV generation going "whoa it's so like the Matrix".
Another time, the Matrix is a PALE movie compared to every Asian martial art
movie.  It's one of the worst movie of 1999.

CTHD is an art movie inspired by WUXIA serials.  Matrix = poor American
movie.  CTHD = one of the best martial art movie ever.  Cmon there ain't no
Keanu bad-acting going "whoa".

eeeech.  If your favorite movie of 2000 is Gladiator, you'll find CTHD much,
much better.  Of course it's not a mainstream movie, perhaps your knowledge
is limited to that type of movies only  (please don't tell me you like
Armageddon <G>).

I'm not talking about the fighting.  I'm talking about the effects style.

Not many movies allow you to walk on thin air :)

thus spoke:

How is Armeggedon like Gladiator? Does CTHD have music by Lisa Gerard?
Bet you don't even know anything about Lisa Gerard's background in
music. Go buy some Dead Can Dance circa 1986 to find out. Does it have
the great cinematography of Gladiator? Does it have acting equal to
Joaquin Phoenix's performance? Gladiator is an epic story of taking a
stand against tyranny. It's not just an action gladiator flick as some
of you seem to see it as. I'm sure CTHD is good, but that doesn't mean
it is better than Gladiator. Personally, I hate martial arts movies,
but may see CTHD for the other bits. Each to their own.

Thank gawd I'm Canadian :)

I hated the movie.  I hated Blair Witch (also raved about).  I loved the
Matrix.

At least we all like racing.  Now can we get back to the important
topics?

Jason.

Frank, you are forgetting that people like movies for different reasons.

To me, people that like Gladiator for the action, probably did like
Armageddon.

I loved Armageddon and it is one of my favorite DVDs.. why? Not because of
the story, but because there are points in the movie that it is just non
stop, heart pumping action.

Gladiator was the same way, only they actually added a good story to the
movie with much better acting than what was in Armageddon.

I love CTHD for many things.. I liked the story, the acting and the great
fight scenes.

Maybe you are close minded when it comes to movies and unless it fits a
certain "template" for you, they are no good.  Personally, I look for
different things in movies and it does not have to be a Award winner to just
be fun to watch.

Sometimes just being fun to watch makes it a good movie.

I took my wife to see it and she's not a Kung Foo or Fight movie fan,
but she loved it. Yes there is a lot more to it than fighting and
special effects but it's one of those movies that knowing the story
line beforehand would lessen its impact..

???? How do you figure this. The chinese were making movies like this
long before the Matrix was even thought about.

With Hollywood it's usualy the other way around. They've mastered the
art of ripping off foreign films and pretending that they thought of
it. Sometimes they don't even bother changing the title they just
translate it to english.

Wait a second, there are some movies that DVD won't (due to the maximum
screen size) do justice.  Gettysburg, Titanic, Star Wars, Ben Hur (no, *I*
haven't seen this one on big screen, but my parents tell me about it all the
time), The Ten Commandments (likewise)...  Just to name a few.  Others, big
screen, small screen (medium if you've got one of the oversized ones) -
what's the difference?

Uhhh, yes I know much about her.  I'm a soundtrack freak.  God is Miklos
Rozsa.  The Devil is James Horner (ha!).

What the?  Gladiator has poor cinematography.  Corny choice of angles, bland
colors, saturated contrast in the same scene (most of the outside shots of
the arena at Rome compared to the low ground), etc...  Even Ridley told he
did not feel it was his best work of cinematography in VXPRO.

Fake british accent equals no acting.  Now go rent Spartacus and watch real
performances.

It's also a dumb revenge script full of clich.

> Does CTHD have music by Lisa Gerard?

Anyway give me Yo-Yo Ma anyday over James Horner's pale copy of Holst's The
Planets.  But we all know in the movie music industry that Horner is just a
hack.  Just for example, his latest movie score (Enemy at the Gate) copies
John William's Schindler's List Theme almost note for note.
