360 Modena Wheel Broken Paddle Spring.

About three weeks ago I was looking to buy a racing wheel and in wandering
about the many sim sites on the web I stumbled on an article about setting
up the acceleration and braking paddles on the 360 Modena wheel so that they
would have less chances of breaking.  At the time I had not yet decided what
wheel to buy.

Being an older dude (almost 60) I figured that the broken paddles were the
probably the result of some younger types misusing their equipment. . . .  I
figured wrong.  (not the first time!!).  In just over 2 weeks of learning
tracks in Nascar Season 2002 and F1 2001, the paddle I use for acceleration
went kaput.

I had just exited La Source and having stepped on the gas got ready for my
next braking point.  It was as I was easing off the gas that I realised(much
too late) that the gas pedal (paddle) was refusing to come back with my
finger.  As I scraped myself of the wall I realised the error of my ways and
while dragging my bruised bones back to the pits muttered something like, "I
was told this was going to happen.  Golly gee wiz".

OK, I lied about the "Golly gee wiz" part. . .  but there are probably
younger racers in the group.  ;o)

If any of you might have seen this article and remembers where it might have
been I would really appreciate a pointer to it.

I have enjoyed various racing sims over the years but being in a wheel chair
and not being able to use my legs for analog pedal control I have been
relegated to using various digital controls for acceleration and braking.
In fact the main (and only) reason that I bought the Modena 360 was because
of the manual analog paddle controls for gas and brake as well as flippers
for gear changing.  It set up easily with seperate axis for gas and brake in
both NR2002 and F1 2001 and was a joy to use for the short time that it
lasted.

Oh, and if anyone knows of any other wheel or system that would allow for
manual control of these functions I would appreciate that info also.  I hear
that one of the Logitech Playstation FF wheels has analog paddles and works
well on the PC but am worried about being able to program its various
buttons for the many functions that are useful during a run. (tire temps,
track position, Lap times etc)

'til then I'll be scouring the web for info while sulking in my pit.   :O(

I took the liberty of forwarding your post to the Thrustmaster folks, requesting they contact you to repair/replace the broken wheel.  Hope it helps you, and helps them understand the equipment those of us with handicaps need to have for a little pleasure in life.  Good luck!
