Radeon 8500 and NFS:PU

I have recently bought the Radeon 8500 and the first thing I noticed
(apart from the fantastic performance) was that most of the menus in
Need for speed:Porsche unleashed are no longer visible. At the same
time, the text on the buttons has become a lot less well defined. Has
anyone else had this problem, and if so have you found a fix? I really
like this game and would be less than happy if I had to go back to
using my Radeon VE just so that I can play it.
Thanks for any help offered,

Tsunami

I noticed that the text is a bit messed up but the menus are still visible
on my 8500. I'm running the latest drivers plus the Rage 3d tweak. Haven't
set any special switches for NFS:PU.

What options does that Rage 3d tweak give you?

What is the Rage 3d tweak? I haven't heard of that.

Same here. NFSPU was the first game I tried on my 8500, and the menus were
messed up. Also in the game, the HUD fonts don't look good. I don't know of
a fix, but I can still play the game.

Rage 3d tweak is a utility that allows you to alter a bunch of different
settings in the driver of the Radeon 8500. Its available at
http://www.rage3d.com/ plus that site also has some good forums for asking
questions about Radeons and ATI cards in general. Lots of gamers seem to
show up there so the odds are good ther will be an answer there.
BTW just to be clear here: I can see all the menus and their buttons but the
text labelling the buttons plus all the other text in the game is distorted.
Its not distorted so badly that you can't read it but it surely does look
weird.

Someone in the ATI newsgroup said to check the Alternate Pixel Center under
your D3D settings when playing this game and then to turn it off when
playing others.

Thanks for the info, I will have a look there now.
The menus on my NFS:PU are completely messed up, you cant make a thing
out, tho occasionally you do get a very brief flash of what should be
there.

I tried that and it made no difference to my menus. All I can say is
give it a try, if it works for you, great!

You know, I recall this ATI & Messed Up Menu's as a problem that goes back
years and years, all throughout their card's history.

That's the only game I've seen on my R8500 that has a font problem. Which is
ok because I don't think too highly of PU anyway. It's an ok arcade racer
with nice graphics, that's all.
