yet)....what are you guys running with V5 cards these days (or is only Dave
Henrie still using a V5)? D3D?, Glide?, OpenGL.......(wished I'd have never
uninstalled GPL...this is such a hassle).

D3D looked a lot worse, haven't tried the new D3D driver though.

For my main box, I've been running GPL on Voodoos since it first came
out--V2, SLI'd V3s, currently V5500--and loving it, particularly the color
palatte & saturation under Glide (for which you definitely want Geo.
Smiley's 'wrapper'). Don't bother w. OpenGL or D3D on a 5500 (get a GeForce
2 GTS, not a GF3, which is actually slower w. GPL). There are a variety of
3Dfx & proprietary drivers to try; I'm using the generic 1.04...I think.
There are various sites w. info on tweaking the 5500...once you've got it
running. I also have another computer with a GF2 (you want the Det 7.52
drivers) running D3D with the patch and DX 8a (you don't want 8.0). Both
are Win 98 (not SE, not ME), and you don't want *any* cards next to the AGP
slot (something nobody ever mentions in the docu!). If you only have AGP
video, PCI audio (I have a SBL! too), and a NIC, you should move them
around--BEFORE you install the OS--until they each have their own IRQ from
the start-up screen. For the 3Dfx machine, I have a cherry-picked selection
of cars w. 3D wheels and have had no problems loading any of the tracks.
Hope this helps.

I believe I will keep this rig as my GPL rig and get a spanking new system
for WSC (when ever that comes).
Thomas (who has to seek permission from the general to buy new system when
WSC is released)

Ooohh! A reason to build a new rig!!! And just when the new NForce chipset
mobo's are debuting.... how to convince my General it's necessary?

Very true Dave... but, I will be waiting for the various respected hardware
sites to have their go with the boards and then make an educated decision. I
did read a pre-pre-release article some time ago on Anandtech and they
seemed to think that the ability of the NForce to handle much greater
bandwith memory and data wise would out-weigh having to disable on-board
graphics or sound if so desired. FWIW, Anandtech's article left me thinking
that the on-board sound might be superior to anything Creative has in the
works as an add-on card and any sim'er worth his/her salt will be dropping
in a top end graphics board anyway. Don't get me wrong... I can't see myself
parting with my V5 5500 anytime soon. As Thomas' message (which I was
responding to) said "I will keep this rig as my GPL rig..." and that's why I
can't see myself ever giving up the V5... it just works sooooo well with
GPL. (Sounds like an advertising slogan doesn't it?) ;)
