Nascar: Has anyone sern this?

Last night I'm racing at Taladega (80%, Damage on, Yellow Flags on, opponents
99%) and the following happens: With about 20 laps to go I'm leading and a
yellow flag comes out. I heard the crash so that was legit. During the second
caution lap, entering the straightaway, my car suddenly veers down onto the
grass does several spins and literally goes through the wall onto the infield.
Now when I went throught the wall my car disappeared but my smoke and dust
were still visible. I went all the way through the infield and came out on the
opposite side of the track (near the pits) my car reappearing as it exited the
wall. By this time my car was destroyed and the message on the screen said
"Blown Engine". When my car came to rest, after literally 20+ spins, "Press
ESC" never came up. I had F2 pressed so I was able to see the current
standings. I went from leading to 18th place which was the last car on the
lead lap which makes sense considering where I was. Now after watching the
replay from several cars and angles I have ruled out contact with any other
cars. I had automatic shifting on so I did not accidentally down shift. I was
only going ~90 mph so I didn't wreck. Any ideas? It was a little frustrating
to sit there for over an hour and end up in the twilight zone.

I've seen smoke that stays on the track a couple of times but I think
it was an isolated incident. Its wierd.

Sounds like you got HOGed. The Hand Of God bug will occasionally rear it's
ugly head, and there's not a whole lot you can do but curse for awhile and
restart the race. I'll never forget the time I was racing at Rockingham in
2nd behind Mark Martin and with TWO laps to go the HOG bug smacked me
around the track. Talk about pissed.

Congrats Chuck, I think you may be one of the lucky few to experience the
famous Nascar HOG bug (Hand Of God). It got me when I was using the
Multi.exe version.  I know Papyrus has a Multi beta version available on
Hawaii to fix it. I don't know if they ever did anything to fix it in the
standard Nascar program. If they have'nt yet then the fix will be called
Nascar2. If you don't upgrade, you may be stuck with it. Just consider it
"Random Failure" :-)

Good Luck,
