GPL Demo starts dial-up adapter???!!!

by Rex Lawrenc » Tue, 07 Apr 1998 04:00:00

Help,  Every time I start GPL Demo, it starts my dial-up adapter.  It will
not run unless I have a connection to my dial-up service?!?! Also, I turned
all the graphics off and it is slower than my 486-33 with ICR1 ever was.  (I
have a Pentium 200 and a 4 MB Millenium.)

Is it just me or is other people having this problem?

That's the fix, but why on earth does this game want to be online ?

The should let the user decide if they want to play head2head.

If you obtain either a Rendition or 3DFX Voodo (1 or 2) card then you
will notice a HUGE difference!!

Perfectly playable on a P-166 with either the above cards.

In win95 go to:  control panel, then Internet, then the "connection" tab
, then uncheck "connect to internet as needed".

Hope this helps :)

GPL Demo starts dial-up adapter???!!!

Just a friendly guess, from my experience with this and other Sierra titles....

It's the automatic online registration EXE. trying to register the product with
Sierra. Go find this EXE, in the same directory as the GPL game EXE, start it,
and either let it run or tell it "Register later."

After that, it doesn't bother me any more. Good luck....It's a great game!

GPL Demo starts dial-up adapter???!!!

I'm having the same problem. Another reply to a similar note in this thread said
it has to do with registration-Sierra games automatically trigger the dial-up
until you send them their precious marketing data! So I registered, couldn't
access their site, printed out the registration, and the game setup (where you can
choose registration) says I have registered. Yet the dial-up still starts! I can
stop it by pressing "enter" once or twice at the main screen in the game, BUT
after exiting the game I can't get onto the internet-dial up says another program
(GPL) is dialing!! Restarting the computer solves that, but who needs this
aggravation. Sierra won't help - they say they don't know about demos, yet to me
this could well be a bug in the programming which ends up in the final version, as
its in their own registration program, not GPL.

Anyone out there know how to modify that file to stop this??
