GPL/NR2003 Stutters

by bhoeni » Tue, 16 Dec 2003 11:29:18

For some reason, my system has started to get the stutters in both
NR2003 and in GPL.  I've moved back the sound acceleration to "basic"
which seems to have helped a bit, but it hasn't eliminated the problem.
I suspect the problem may involve either the soundcard or video drivers.

So, I'd be curious to hear what sound and video driver versions those of
you with a system similar to mine use for these sims.

My system specs are:  AthlonXP 2100 (not overclocked); Epox 8kha+ mobo;
Windows XP Pro; 640 Megs RAM; Radeon 9700 Pro videocard (not
overclocked); Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card; Momo Force (using
USB); TSW pedals (using gameport).

Thanks!

It could be any number of odd conflict.  What OS are you using?  The win9x's are
prone to irq conflicts.  You may have left over network drivers from an old nic?
Your OS could be hunting for the lan net it 'thinks' it is connected to.
THis could take forever...have  you installed the proper motherboard files again?
agp/gart stuff for the amd based systems etc.   If your system has built in sound is
that properly disabled?
Does the screen freezing happen only in games or during windows sessions as
well?(the easiest way to notice this is to swing your mouse around and see if the
arrow SMOOTHLY follows your motions.)
If you have one of the Xp/win2k/nt OSes do you you have indexing enabled?

Look for shared resources as well. When I had my GF3 it always wanted to put
my GF3 and something else on the same irq, but the O/S would just list it as
shared.

I should have been more clear - that's what I meant when I said I'd look for
conflicts.  Some cards can comfortably share an IRQ, some can't.  I vaguely
remember having to do some interrupt switching, or setting the BIOS to PNP os,
or something like that.  I'll check it when I get home.

Have you definitely loaded the AGP 4 in 1 (or 3 in 1 whatever) drivers?
This is a favourite for new systems - at least with me - to forget when
reinstalling. Followed by a WTF then a Doh!

Cheers

Ooh...I don't even know where that setting would be.  There isn't anything
listed in a conflict/disabled in the system devices.  I don't *think* I have
the 4-in-1 chipset.

It will come with your motherboard drivers if you have a via chipset, or
you can usually download it from the motherboard manfacturer's site. What
mobo is it, Eldred?

Gigabit.  Maybe I had downloaded an update for some reason before...  Thanks
for reminding me.

I  load the motherboard drivers the very first thing.  That got beat into my
head years ago. I had an STB 4400 video card and an ASUS P5A motherboard and
it I installed the video drivers before the motherboard drivers the thing
would lock up tighter than a drum, and the only way to clear it was to start
the install over.
