Pots for a Thrustmaster

by lavoiedan.. » Fri, 15 Oct 1999 04:00:00

Hi!

I own a Thrustmaster Grand Prix I for over 2 years:  yes, I have changed
my pots several times, but every time using the world-reknown costumer
service of Thrustmaster (BTW, this is not the point of my post, ok?)

Problem is: now, thrustmaster is being sold to Gillemot...  And my
steering wheel is not under warranty (it is now too old...)They don't
even support those 'old' wheel such as the Grand Prix I, T-1 and T-2,
etc...

So where can I find those pots?  I know any 100Kohms pot could do the
job, but the pot itself is not bolted in the unit, it just holds on a
plastic bit:  I would have to find a pot that fits that hole, and so
far, I didn't find one...

So is there any place we can find those 'TM-shaped' pots?  Yes, all that
text for that small question...

I remember reading somewhere (maybe in RAS), that Guillemot will sell spare
parts for Thrustmaster products, which are out of warranty. Try to contact
them, the pots can't be too expensive and they'll fit. (If they still have
parts for the T2, that is)

They will send you new pots (and other parts for your GP1, T1 or T2 for that
matter) but you'll have to pay for it.

Here is the response I got a month ago(9/15/99):

Dear Customer,

You should be able to find those at RadioShack or similar. You need a
250K ohms potentiometer.

What did Radio Shack say?  100k ohm is the closest they had.
I'm still searching.

Bad news, that they send you to RadioShack. But I don't think you need a
250K pot, it should work with 100K also. Different pedals/wheels use
different pots (for example my TM F1 (Nascar Pro) pedals use 100K pots).
That's what calibrating is for. The main problem with non-original pots is,
if they fit in regard to housing dimension, shaft size etc., so you can
mount them without too much messing around. If the 100K's fit, try them.
