Thrustmaster GP1 - have the pots gone ?

by Ian Greenwoo » Sun, 10 May 1998 04:00:00

Hi folks, anyone advise me on this please.

MY GP1's left paddle control has suddenly become very erratic, and I
suspect there is a poor contact somewhere in the wheel which is
causing this - for instance I am only getting about 'half-throttle'.
Seems to be the same in all racing games, and I have recalibrated
which has only made it worse.

Is this the dreaded pots problem, and if so what is the best way to
solve it (still under warranty)

Many thanks

My GP1 suffered a similar problem on the accelerator pot, plus a few bits
and pieces inside the wheel just fell off. I took it back today and bought
a Digital Edge compact instead. The GP1 is just too fragile.

Your GP1 was fragile, mine is working for almost two years, and I'm not
treating it nicely... ;^)

Sounds like it is the pot. Try eagle womens web site for hints on
controllers (she also has a link to a T2 upgrade site) - address is
http://www.nh.ultranet.com/~alison/sims/
Basically they suggest giving the pot a squirt with tape head cleaner or
something similar.
Unfortunately Thrustmaster advise me that the GP1 pots cannot easily be
replaced (unlike the T2), so its not a simple matter of them just posting
you new pots once they do go. You have to send the wheel back to them. But a
squirt should do the trick. It worked with my GP1

O

Call Thrustmaster and tell them your problem, I did and they said the
part was a difficult replacement and sent me a complete steering
wheel. Took a week.
