CART/ICR2/Rendition one last try...

I have exactly the same problem.  I used to play it all the time in
Rendition mode - and believe me, there is a BIG difference.  But ever
since I upgraded to this machine so I could run GPL, I have never been
able to get CART to run again.  If you figure it out, please let me
know.

CART/ICR2/Rendition one last try...

OK, I found a copy of CART racing for $9.95.  I bought it, brought it
home, installed it, and no dice.  Things I have tried to get it to work:

Rebooting to MS-DOS mode and running it.
Running it in a DOS box in Win98.
Running both the CARTFAST.BAT and CARTREND.BAT
Setting the .BAT files to reboot to MS-DOS mode and run the .EXE
    Installing the ICR2_V2K patch.
    Trying the DOSV2K patch.
    Trying the INDYFIX.BAT swapping trick.

The system that I'm running on is a K6-3 450 with a Diamond Stealth II
S220 card (4 meg PCI, V2100), FIC PA-2013 mainboard, SB Live! Value card,
192 megs of PC-100 memory, and a 3COM Fast Etherlink XL 10/100 NIC
w/bootrom.

    I'm thoroughly stumped.

The best that I've managed is to get the Rendition Redline logo
(RR.EXE???) to display, then I get a bar of messed-up colors across the top
of the screen.  I've waited at this stage for 3-4 minutes just to see what
might happen (as I've read some messages that seem to indicate that the
INDYFIX.BAT method can cause the system to sit in a seemingly stalled state
for awhile). to no avail.  I'm at a complete loss.  I've loved playing this
game for years, but I really wanted to see it in all of it's Rendition
glory.  The only thing that I haven't tried yet is re-building one of my
other systems to be a DOS only box and installing it there.  Though I don't
think that's necessarily the problem.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?

The problem is, as you know, the 2nd gen Rendition chip in your
Diamond Stelth II.    If you could scrounge up an older v1000 based
card, then everything would work easily.
I had the rendition version running once upon a time, but after
several hd formats, I was never able to get it running again in 3d.
the dos version worked just fine,  just not aa neat.
It sounds like you've already tried the things that are "supposed" to
work, I can't add much more.
good luck

This is from memory, but two things I did to get it to run on a
Hercules Thriller (V2200):

1. Get one of the 2nd generation Rendition fixes from Bjorn's 3d world
(www.bjorn3d.com).  I think it was V2kFix.  This alters your Rendition
executable so it doesn't ***when it looks for only a V1000 card.

2. I've read and found successful the following procedure: boot in
DOS, run the executable, quit it, run it a second time.  It seems like
it needs the second start to properly initialize.

   Good luck!

PS - Some recent versions of CART Racing don't have the Rendition
executables included (even if they say so on the box!) :(  This
doesn't seem to be a problem for the original poster, though.

nothing to be frightened of, and no limit, any fool could get into
a motor car and racing would not exist as a sport." -- Jim Clark

It's been a long time, but, I seem to remember having to use
a switch like "-nodma" or "-dma" in order to make it work on
my Screamin' 3D.

Try typing cartrend /? to see what switches are available
