GPL and latest Diamond drivers

by Sondo » Wed, 09 Dec 1998 04:00:00

I recently downloaded and installed the latest drivers, (12 -1- 98 I think)
from Diamonds website for my V2 12mb video card.  Now when I run GPL I get
mouse shadows and it will sometimes lock up on the main menu if I try to
select options.  It also locks up when trying to calibrate my NASCAR Pro
wheel.  I can race and my wheel works fine but if I need to re-calibrate it
may become more of an issue.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I had no problems, but I installed directX 6 from Microsofts site
prior to installing the latest Monster Drivers. Maybe this makes a
difference.

I'm having exactly the same problem with the 3dfx reference drivers on
a Monster2. It was ok a while ok but I've changed some h/w (m/b, cpu,
etc) and I'm now seeing this problem. I was going to try the Diamond
drivers but I'm thinking twice about it after your post. Guess I'll
have to try something else.

Same problem here. I heard that Diamond is going to release new drivers
again this week. Until then, I've got to run in Rendition mode using my
Stealth II S220.

Use the Diamond Monster 3D2 version 2.03 drivers, they're the ones right
before the current (new) version 2.05, which are a mess.  Diamond is
supposedly preparing a new rev to fix things but don't hold your breath.

I dld'd the same drivers on the weekend and had major issues.  GPL fps count went
from 32-35 to 1.5 - 2 with accompanying lockups.  Went back to ones supplied on cd
and all is well again.

Regarding this issue. I thought I would mention (not sure if I already
have) that Windows95 does not have these problems with exactly the
same drivers.

I've seen a post that says glide 2.53 works better than 2.54 but
neither of them work in '98 since I upgraded h/w. Never mind, I'll
just dual boot till I sort this problem out.

Paul
