Thrustmaster Nascar Pro Problems

by Don Chapma » Fri, 25 Sep 1998 04:00:00

I have a Thrustmaster Nascar Pro steering wheel(NOT the new Sprint) with the
pedals/steering set to combined.
I have the Game Controller program from Direct X 5.2 and the Thrustmaster
ProPanel V1.01.1 software.
The Game Controller program from the Windows 95 control panel shows the
Nascar Pro with combined pedals selected for device 1 and gives a Status of
OK. However, when I go to calibrate, it says that the joystick is not
properly connected and gives an error. If I go into the ProPanel program, it
just says that the Nascar Pro is Unplugged and will not allow me to test or
calibrate. I have removed it and added it back. I have shut down, booted
back up, and added it back, and the same thing happens everytime.

Here is the strange part, if I select the Thrustmaster T1/T2 option it
calibrates and works just fine. I am able to use it in the Grand Prix
Legends Demo, Need for Speed III, Nascar 2, Indycar 2, Ubisoft F1RS, Cart
Precision Racing, etc. Is there anything to be gained or lost by not having
the Nascar Pro selected, as opposed to the T1/T2? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

This might be a stupid answer but have you tried using the separate
option on your pedals. I just got the Pro and a TM ACM game card and I
have it set on separate. Works great in N2. Let me know if this helps.

It doesn't make sense to me that T1/T2 works, but what I have to do is to
have both the joystick and the wheel listed in the ProPanel.  When I
disconnect one or the other, I switch the current game device to Device 1 in
ProPanel and set the unused controller as Device 2.  If I don't do that, I
can't use the wheel or the joystick.  Once I set both devices in ProPanel,
the status will show Device 1 as OK and Device 2 as Unplugged.  I am then
able to calibrate and use Device 1.  No rebooting necessary.

that is strange that it will calibrate under t1/t2, I have had my wheel not
want to be recognized, usually the way I fixed it was removing and
reinstalling the gameport drivers, and/or reinstalling propanel.

After that you could define controller of your own with Control Panel's
Game Controllers. Add Custom controller with 2 axis and pedals there.
Defining my own wheel solved the problems with TM F1 Racing wheel,
which is similiar with Nascar Pro wheel.

Every now and then this happens with win95 (I haven't quite got it
figured out, but. . .)  Usually the only sure way I can get either
control panel or ProPanel to recognize my NASCAR Pro is to remove it
from the game controller or ProPanel (to be safe only have one device
installed and always as ID 1).  Unplug the NASCAR Pro and then install
my old reliable joystick.  Set up the ProPanel for a simple joystick,
calibrate.  Then remove the joystick from ProPanel and then plug the
NASCAR Pro back in and then select it for device ID 1.  This usually
works for me.
