Screamer 2 3dfx help

by ian fo » Wed, 10 May 2000 04:00:00

Yes I know this is a really old game & I know it's not a simulator and so
probably doesn't belong in this ng but does anyone know if it's possible to
run the 3dfx patch with a voodoo2 . It worked with my old voodoo 1 but  I've
had no joy so far with my newer card.

Thanks,
Ian

I got it working on a V2.  I found a V2 patch for it somewhere on the net,
although it's so long ago I can't remember where.  Try searching the web for
it, and if you don't have any luck then post again and i'll try and find it
for you.
Despite not being excatly a simulator, S2 is tremendous fun and a real
challenge, even though rally cars don't really drive like that!
I haven't been able to play S2 since I got a V3, which it definitely doesn't
work on.

I just had a quick look and I think I might have found it, although I'm not
sure.  Go to http://www.3dfxmania.com/patches/index.shtml and scroll down
until you see Screamer 2.  Follow the link and download the patch.  The
normal 3dfx patch is about 450k, whereas this patch is about 1MB.  It's the
S2 patch that came on the CD with Screamer Rally.  I think this should get
the game running with your V2.
If it doesn't work, just reply here and i'll have another look.  :)
Simon.

Simon,
Thanks for your help but the S2 patch off the screamer rally CD was the one
I couldn't get to work - my system just hangs even before the intro screens.
I'm surprised you got it to work because SR itself has to be patched to work
with a V2. I can get SR work but I also like S2.

Thanks,
Ian

I had a look at the Voodoo 2 FAQ at
http://voodooextreme.com/files/moodyv2.html and it reports Scremer 2 as
working on the V2.  It also mentions a batch file that is needed, which
basically means lines to enter in your autoexec.bat file.  The url for the
batch file is http://3dfx.infomaniak.ch/V2%20Batch.rtf and it also mentions
copying some Glide drivers to your Screamer 2 folder.
