F1GP and Steering help

I've played F1GP using a T2 for some time now and thought I was pretty
good untill I saw The hall of fame,  After changing my car-setups to
match the leaders I improoved some what and was within a second of the
leaders on most circuits.

But then a friend told me all the leaders times were done without the
steering help. Can someone put me out of my misery and tell me this
isn't true and I'm not back to square one ?

I have practiced only Monza without any steering help and am still at
least 5 secs off the pace.  Most of the others are just a nightmare.

Your friend has his or her facts wrong. Most of those times are set
with the keyboard - you can't turn steering help off in that case.
However, you can turn traction help off and this is in fact the case.
