Anyone playing through a video projector?  We had a meeting at work the
other day and they were using PowerPoint of course, and I got to wondering
how the NASCAR game would play on it.  I have my garage set up as a game
room and thought it would be cool to buy another pc and a projector then set
it up strictly for my racing games.  Anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks.

I  tried an Epson projector with Nascar 2003,GPL, and BF1942. All were
excellent! It has a native resolution of 1024X768 so I would not get one
with less than that. I also played DVDs and tried my ATI AIW TV and all
looked cool! If I could spare 2000.00 I would have one. Very impressive!
They are called Multimedia Projectors.

As long as the projector can do 1024x768 or greater, projecting a large
image on a wall or screen looks pretty poor at lower resolutions and your pc
can provide adequate playability(fps) at the higher resolutions.

Be aware of the bulb life and bulb cost.  They ain't cheap to replace.

Yes.  NR2003 is awesome on the big screen.  The image is practically
life-size.

Check out www.projectorcentral.com for info and reviews about specific
models.

Another good site is www.avsforum.com/avs-vb.  Check out the Digital
Projector forums and the Home Theater PC forum for information
overload.  The site is aimed at home theater enthusiasts, but much of
the info is still applicable.

Do go with XGA or higher res.  Yes, bulbs are expensive ($$$ per pop)
but the per hour cost can be reasonable if you get a model with long
bulb life.  The alternative is a CRT projector, which is bigger,
harder to set up properly, and susceptible to burn in when you use it
for games.

You want something with at least 1000 lumens unless you can totally
control the light in your garage.

You can skip a screen for a while.  Just paint your projection surface
flat white.  You can use the money you might have spent on the screen
on a better projector.

Be aware that some minority of folks get headaches and see weird
visual artifacts when watching DLP (vs. LCD) projectors.  Try to watch
one of these type projectors before buying one to make sure you are
not one of these people.

Good luck, and be prepared to share significant screen time with your
SO if they ever see just how good a DVD can look on one of these
things.
